I think Ted Cruz is in the closet.

I'm going to get flames for this speculation, but every time I see him, I think of the way I felt about other politicians Ken Mehlmen before they came out or Larry Craig before they were exposed. I guess it would explain why his dad is so homophobic.

IMO Ted's entitled to his private life, whatever it may be

I also think he's entitled to keep his private life private

And, let me add, I sure do hope he does keep it private, because I'd really rather not know anything at all about it and try really really hard to avoid thinking about him anymore than seems to me absolutely necessary for political reasons

It's been a psychological commonplace (for quite a long time now) that learning about a persons's sexual proclivities teaches us almost nothing else about the person

So there are gay Republicans -- just as there are certainly gay just-about-anything-elses too

I expect that, for the foreseeable future, I'll continue to consider Ted an off-the-deep-end round-the-bend completely-certifiable wack-a-doodle, and whether or not he's gay is pretty much irrelevant to that

I cannot tolerate individuals who are closeted to themselves and/or their friends and families in positions of political power that use that power to work against the interests of LGBT persons.

If he is gay he voted against ENDA. But he would have to having been raised by that nut-case father that spews so much venom, none of which is rooted in the Christian Bible. If he is gay he probably is so self-loathing it spews out in his hatred for women, minorities, LGBT persons, the poor, etc.

Hypocrisy is something I will not abide. I have absolutely no problem having a politician or someone in a trust position such as a clergyman being outed for their utter hypocrisy.

On the other hand, it seems to me (as an old straight white male), that claims he is gay (without adequate evidentiary support) can only have electoral effects by playing into anti-gay prejudice, which IMO does potentially damage the underlying civil rights issues

*if* Ted is a closeted gay or repressed or whatever (as we've seen MANY times with conservative politicians), then much of his behaviour and political beliefs can be traced to that repressed childhood and lashing out against what he might really be...out of fear.

When a gay guy (aka me) finds the OPs extrapolation that Ted Cruz (who happens to be a loathsome bigoted asshole) must be gay because, well, just because somewhat offensive that is your definition of "fake outrage".

A clue, if a minority takes offense at something directed towards them or their orientation as a pejorative calling their reaction "fake outrage" is hardly a progressive point of view. I actually would like to phrase this more succinctly but I don't feel like a hidden post today.

The theory that if someone is homophobic then they must be a repressed homosexual is complete and utter crap.
