Is the fight against Black Thursday a losing one? I sure hope not.

As much public outrage as there is about stores that remain open on Thanksgiving, I just worry that there are enough suckers out there allured by "deals" (many of which are not even worth it in the end) to forgo turkey with the family and instead head on over to the nearest Toys R Us.

I just fear the levee has broken on Thanksgiving and there's nothing that can be done about it. PT Barnum at work.

Me personally? I don't plan on setting foot in a single retail store this entire weekend if I can help it. Planning on taking my kids to a state park for some hiking on Friday while everyone else is at the malls.

It's a real blessing to have the grocery store open for at least part of the day.

No food spoils in a day. Buy what you need ahead of time. If you forget one thing, you will still survive and have a great thanksgiving.

Why is it fair for a grocery store to be open, but if retail is open, then its a tragedy?

Retail stores are open because people want to (or are at least willing) to shop on thanksgiving, and I don't really have a problem with it.

(For the record, I will not be shopping at all thanksgiving)

Well see if the consumer backs up pledges to not shop earlier and earlier each year. If they don't show up for a fight there is no fight.
I'll shop this weekend, even early Friday.
And online anytime.
But I hope like me that most will not set foot in any store earlier than 6am Friday.

I'm guessing there will be a market for pre-black Friday but for me it isn't a fight. If it happens and sticks so be it. I'll just choose not to participate. Like you said the deals are there but many aren't worth it in the end. Black Friday for me, anything Thursdays that can't be had online, earlier or later is going to be eternally off limits for myself and I assume many others. They can have the fight, the deals, the ripoffs and I'll take family&friends Thursday Thanksgiving this year and every year.
