North Carolina 3-year-old shoots another 3-year-old after parents leave rifle in playroom

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/11/27/north-carolina-3-year-old-shoots-another-3-year-old-after-parents-leave-rifle-in-playroom/

Simmons and his girlfriend, 26-year-old Melisa Ann Mumpower, were both charged with three counts of misdemeanor child abuse, one count of felony child abuse and one count of failure to properly store a firearm to protect minor. Randolph County deputies said that the misdemeanor child abuse charges were related to living conditions in the home.

3. That was my argument in my appeal of the decision to lock the thread...

I was then told it would be unlocked only if all the other monitors agreed it was news. The OP is still locked so, I guess that means all the other monitors felt a three year old shooting another three year old isn't newsworthy in the GD forum

8. It's not that they aren't newsworthy, I think, it's that such threads often become

repetitive, contentious, and unproductive. So, they're restricted to gun-specific Groups, of which there are two:

Gun Control & RKBA

Discuss gun politics, gun control laws, the Second Amendment, the use of firearms for self-defense, and the use of firearms to commit crime and violence.

Gun Control Reform Activism

Discuss how to enact progressive gun control reform in a supportive environment. The group serves as a safe haven in which to mobilize supporters in support of measures reducing gun violence by changing laws, culture and practice at the municipal, state, and federal levels. While there is no single solution to the tragic epidemic of gun violence, members agree that more guns are not the solution to gun violence, and are expected to be supportive of the policies of progressive gun control reform organizations.

Unless a topic is exception-worthy "big news," OPers are supposed to put the thread in whichever of those seems most relevant/appropriate, and GD hosts will lock them here...

if you follow the link, the reason stated is the end of the gun exemption. I guess gun threads now must go to the gungeon.

Statement of Purpose

Discuss politics, issues, and current events. No posts about Israel/Palestine, religion, guns, showbiz, or sports unless there is really big news. No conspiracy theories. No whining about DU.

10. it's due to the heated exchanges over guns and gun laws...

Guns has its own forum (nicknamed the gungeon) specifically dedicated to guns in our society, including gun news.

GD had a temporary exception in place for an extended period of time to allow gun topics (I think after Sandy Hook but could be remembering wrong), but that temporary exception has been ended in the last week or so.

Drunk driving doesn't generally start flamewars so doesn't have a need for its own forum.
