Marissa Alexander released from jail
The morning before Thanksgiving Day, Marissa Alexander expected she would once again be eating her Thanksgiving meal with other Duval County jail inmates.
But with a stroke of Circuit Judge James Daniel’s pen, Alexander was able to post bail Wednesday night and join her family for Thanksgiving dinner.
Members of the grassroots Free Marissa Now campaign praised the ruling and the timing of it.
“I’m a mother and we’ve been crying at the joy of what this means,” Aleta Alston-Toure said as the group gathered on the Northbank Riverwalk to celebrate the decision.
