(4,795 posts)Its going to take a solid 5 years before anyone can declare anything a success or a failure IMHO. Anyone doing so now is suffering partisan bias.

(33 posts)this thing needs time to sort out success or not. this experiment is now law and we need to see if it will work. the title will likely stay the same. but the reforms could be profound. Just sayin

(hope all this material is answering your question and allaying any doubts , graywarrior ... by early next spring, if not sooner, the GOP will be back to screaming "Benghazi" as they pull their hair out over the SUCCESS of the ACA)

A LONG List Of President Obamas Accomplishments (With Citations)
by Milt Shook
If youre one of those folks who thinks President Obama is a disappointment, you havent been paying attention the last few years. And those of you who try to draw comparisons with the Bush Administration should put away the hallucinogens and have your memory checked. If you were in a coma for the eight Bush Years, I apologize and forgive you. But please join the real world. So far, this president has done most of what he said he would do if elected; imagine what he could have done by now if progressives had supported him and not given him a Congress that doesnt look at him as if hes the demon seed.
Not only is he NOT a disappointment, hes pretty much the opposite. And no, I dont just say that because he took out Osama bin Laden, helped Libya determine their own destiny for the first time in a while, and because he seems able to handle international incidents without starting a new war. The guy does nearly everything we elect a president to do, and he doesnt brag about it constantly.
Is he perfect? No, hes human. Does he deserve some criticism? I suppose, but I must admit I havent seen any complaints that were of based on anything having to do with the real world. One I cant forgive him for is pulling Janet Napolitano out of Arizona. But the thing is, on balance, hes mostly stellar. Besides, criticism about certain specific problems is one thing; taking on an overall Obama sucks meme not only has the potential to put Willard Romney into power, its also a lie. Just because you wanted a president who would give you a glitter-farting unicorn and didnt quite get that doesnt mean hes not doing well at the job we hired him for.
What follows is a PARTIAL list of Obamas accomplishments so far. Unlike many such lists, there is a link to a citation supporting every single one:

The Obama administration said Sunday that it achieved its goal of making HealthCare.gov work for the vast majority of users after the disastrous start of enrollment in the presidents signature health law.
The Obamacare website will be able to support more than 800,000 consumers per day, the administration said. And the site is now online more than 90 percent of the time, not including scheduled downtime for maintenance.
These are huge improvements for a site that was up an average of 43 percent of the time in October, crashing frequently, spewing error messages, thwarting millions of people who tried to visit it.
The bottom line: HealthCare.gov on Dec. 1st is night and day from where it was on Oct. 1st, Jeff Zients, the management expert steering the repair mission, told reporters Sunday morning.

(50,557 posts)The one that's already saving lots of people money, is giving lots of people the chance to get insurance who never had that chance before, will create thousands of new companies and tens of thousands of new jobs because people won't have to worry about insurance companies telling the self-employed to fuck off, and will bury the phrase "I hate my job but I can't leave because my wife has A Disease"?
That law?
That law is going to be a success and a failure. In the states where the governor and statehouse have said "This is a necessary law and we are going to make it work here," it will be a grand success. Look at California - Paul Krugman already has and likes what he sees. Look at Kentucky. Governor Beshear can't speak five words without saying Kynect. It's working there. Brosurance is doing well in Colorado. The states that are embracing the law are glad they did. Even Idaho - the land of the extreme right - is seeing results because our idiot governor went to his legislature and won enough support to start an exchange.
In the states that refuse to build exchanges, it will be a failure...not because the law is bad but because it's being undermined. Anything can be ruined if you work at it enough.
I hope that in the first batch of ACA amendments we get rid of the provisions allowing states to opt out of Medicaid expansion and setting up state exchanges. We are the UNITED States not Far Western Europe. And the fact we are one country rather than fifty little independent sovereigns is the reason we have not gone the way of Greece. It is about time we started acting like one country.
