it is not a story about guns or gun control.

Shannon Watts knew she was heading into a rough neighborhood when she became an activist in the battle over gun control. A former corporate executive and mother of five children, Watts launched a gun-control group, now called Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, not long after the Newtown shootings. As the new push to restrict guns grabbed attention over the ensuing year, Watts and other activists experienced the blowback up close, in sometimes frightening detail.
At protest rallies, they have been met by men carrying rifles. (It's legal: many states permit the open carry of long guns.) Watts has had her home address in Indianapolis posted online along with the suggestion that people show up and show why its important to have a gun. She has gotten letters at home saying that the sender knows where her kids go to school and where her husband works. On the lighter side, an ironist has been sending her free issues of Guns & Ammo.
She has a harder time finding irony in images floating around online featuring her head bloodied by a huge knife stuck into her skull.

Still, your posting something from the host forum into this GD thread is reprehensible.
Shame on you.

I can't remember the last alert I've sent though.
And what you said about Robb, don't lecture me.

(46,192 posts)right after Newtown:
OP: What you want is a Mossberg 500 Special Purpose 12 ga with Extended Magazine.
EarlG instructed us to let gun posts stay in GD and to generally let it all hang out.
I don't actually own a Mossberg 500 Stainless Steel Shotgun with 9 round capacity, but I'm likely to order one based upon my personal environment.
Carry on if you don't want to discuss the relative plusses/minusses of a shotgun versus handgun or rifle, it's not my point.
First, read this: http://www.democraticunderground.com/1240187710
Now, allow me the very same freedom to invite discussion about the merits or disadvantages of such a weapon.
For myself, I don't own one but am ordering one tomorrow.
It's stainless steel and I live on the water.
It's a shotgun, so I don't have to aim, and it won't go 1/4 mile like my long guns (ooh he has long guns, banish him! :rofl.
In honesty, I'm testing the DU system.
If it's OK to post gun hater threats and insults in GD, per EarlG, then my humble opinion on the Mossberg 500 is surely fair.
Thanks DU!
Loveya!

and here's what you wrote about another post in your profile:

look in the mirror before you lecture me or anybody else about civility.
and we know you don't want gun control discussed in any forum where gun control supporters aren't heavily outnumbered. Even when there was a broad exception allowing those posts in GD, you were serially alerting on them as gun or local stories (when neither was excluded by the SOP).

I don't know why we get along on other things but not on the gun thing.
Maybe, one day.

(46,192 posts)Not a chump for someone who says to be civil, but then posts that nastiness in his profile about another host.
Not a chump for someone who has for some odd reason, a bunch of stuff about the poster "gopiscrap" in their profile (you finally deleted it last night after I pointed it out)
As soon as you are 1% as civil as Mother Teresa, please spare me the lectures.

(16,038 posts)to claim immunity from the fall out of the debate they enter..this has nothing to do with "Newtown Families", it has to do with a political activist who happens to be a (singular) Newtown family member..

(26,595 posts)story is actually identified as being connected to Newtown; the original headline seems misleading, and the OP's version is more so.
Regardless, these attacks on her and others are contemptible...

(37,748 posts)I imagine that's one way to rationalize bullying.
pipoman
(16,038 posts)it isn't about rationalizing anything..leastwise bad, or threatening behavior. It is and has been known that many kinds of civil activism use bad and threatening behavior..we all know what those areas of activism are..if we choose to enter the national spotlight as an activist in these areas of civil activism, the consequences has to be a consideration in that personal decision. It doesn't mean it shouldn't be prosecuted to the fullest...but it is predictable in spite of it's insidiousness...all that said, if this OP (which seems to have some problems) was accurate, the activist who is experiencing these unacceptable retaliations can't pretend it isn't predictable. If the OP was accurate, the person wouldn't be the target of the counter activists because they are "Newtown victims' families", it would be because they are counter activists..

(97 posts)I think her plan and her group was meet with mostly approval by the residents of CT.
I don't know how much she had to do with all the laws passing but even if it was just a little
Good for her for taking a stand against gun violence and assault guns.
The article didn't say
Did she lose a child in the Newtown shooting?
