Pope Francis: I was a club bouncer before joining the Catholic Church

He’s already known as an ardent soccer fan and a tango dancing enthusiast.

And now, in another twist, Pope Francis has disclosed he used to work as a nightclub bouncer, according to a report from the Catholic News Service citing the Vatican newspaper, L'Osservatore Romano.

The revelation came during a visit Francis paid Saturday to the Church of San Cirillo Alessandrino outside Rome. There, he reportedly told parishioners of his work as a club bouncer.

Francis, who originally hails from a Buenos Aires barrio in Argentina, has since his election in March made waves with frank proclamations that some observers have characterized as reshaping Catholic priorities going forward.

with what he's saying or doing. I understand why you diehard defenders of capitalism don't care for him. Love how the late to the party types on GLBT issues are suddenly outraged by him.

God's plan' which he says comes from the devil. It has to do with what he does, which includes opposing a woman's reproductive choice, he recently said abortion is a 'symptom of our throw away culture'.
And cali, Sid and I lock horns on many things, but he has always been strong on LGBT rights, snarky and rude of style, but on our side. I know because I subjected him to sincere questioning and he responded sincerely. It is not those who criticze the Pope who are of questionable loyalties toward gay people and trans people, it is the folks who claim Francis' anti gay materials are not important because he says he cares for the poor in a pressser on his private jet.
What are your thoughts about choice being symptomatic of consumerist culture?

threads praising and extolling this bigot that pisses me off.

"OMG HE KISSED A BABY!" "HE DROVE AN OLD CAR!" "HE SAT IN A DIFFERENT CHAIR!"

It's disgusting bullshit. The last guy said the same damn things -- yes about capitalism and economics, too. But get a new guy in, have him do a few photo-ops and even otherwise intelligent, thinking people here are starry-eyed awestruck about how he's the "awesomest pope evar!!1"

It's really no different than Reagan's "cowboy" schtick, or Bush's "gee howdy, I'm just a folksy Texas rancher...watch me clear some brush!"

"Did he shit gold too?"

I doubt it. However, should he actually do so, I imagine that too would be trivialized and minimized as insignificant.
