Three Black Students Waiting For Bus Arrested After Cops Order Them To ‘Disperse’

Three African-American students who were waiting for a school bus in Rochester, New York were arrested on Wednesday morning when police officer told them to “disperse,” even though witnesses said they did nothing wrong.

According to WROC, basketball coach Jacob Scott had arranged for a school bus to pick up the boys to take them to a scrimmage on a day when school was closed.

A police report claimed that the boys were blocking “pedestrian traffic while standing on a public sidewalk…preventing free passage of citizens walking by and attempting to enter and exit a store…Your complainant gave several lawful clear and concise orders for the group to disperse and leave the area without complaince [sic].”

But the students and the coach dispute the police version of events.

“We didn’t do nothing,” student Raliek Redd explained. “We was just trying to go to our scrimmage.” “We was just waiting for our bus and he started arrested us,” student Wan’Tauhjs Weathers added.

Lots of cities have rules against 3 or more teenagers loitering in public places. If they were all dressed in similar colors, that would be even more suspicious.

But then the entire point of my post was that they probably harassed these kids on the assumption they were gang-bangers rather than in response to the "knock-out game" nonsense. Given that racism is the norm for police departments, then their being Black undoubtedly attributes to the assumption.

I wasn't commenting on that. I was commenting on the knock-out game aspect.

"Ridiculous. But these students seriously need an English lesson..."
Conjunctions (in this case, 'but') are used to merge to ideas, and never to begin sentence structures. However,I do realize we often hold others (even youths speaking informally) to higher standards than we hold ourselves.

Starting a sentence with but, especially on something as informal as an online forum, is perfectly acceptable. AND there is a big difference between speaking basic proper English and grammar. I wouldn't have mentioned anything if they had made a grammatical error, but 3 sentences with improper English couldn't be ignored.

No more and no less than common vernacular is acceptable in an informal setting between youths. Again, you seem to be accurately illustrating that we often hold others to higher standard than we hold ourselves, and are adding qualifiers to your premise after the fact to better validate your original errors, while maintain your indictments against theirs.

"but 3 (sic) sentences with improper English couldn't be ignored..."
Most others on this thread did ignore it, so we've clearly established it may be ignored. You simply chose not to (and any number of ten or less is to be spelled out rather than using the numerical character... just in case you don't want to be corrected over that in the future as you correct others again...)

Calling bad grammar a myth does not make the grammar any less bad (again, insert rationalization here).

Democrats for less education so others doesn't feel bad about sounding stoopid.

Jesus, are you afraid you are going to hurt their feelings acknowledging that they use improper English and that it would be better if they were taught the correct way to speak? Since when are Democrats opposed to education?

BTW, there is nothing wrong with starting a sentence with but. It is NOT bad grammar. That is a myth. Sorry your teacher taught you otherwise. AND there is also nothing wrong with not writing out any number on a message board. BUT thanks for trying to find faults with my writing.

They were verbally responding to a question. Language has lots of uses, but the main one is to communicate. Do you understand what was said? Then it was communicated.

And where does one wait for a school bus but on the sidewalk?

I feel very skeptical of the officer's statement that the kids were actually blocking traffic. I think they were more likely taking up sidewalk space near where the bus would pick them up.
