To me, this goes to the network's broadcasting standards and has nothing to do with partisanship or what some other media person said on their show. If he worked for me, I would have fired him.

I don't listen to Rush so I'm not in a position to comment on things he's said.

http://www.addictinginfo.org/2012/03/01/rush-limbaugh-says-women-who-use-birth-control-should-make-sex-tapes-so-he-can-watch-them-audio/

When Rush Limbaugh called Sandra Fluke a slut on his radio show on Wednesday, he faced a tremendous backlash from Democrats and women across the country. The only people who seemed to support Limbaugh’s words were other conservatives. The Georgetown University Law School student has been derided by Republicans for testifying about the medical usefulness of contraceptives. And outspoken woman haters like Limbaugh now seek to sully her reputation.

But Limbaugh didn’t let this issue go. In fact, he escalated his vitriol on Thursday, accusing his critics of having “a conniption fit.” He then offered to buy “all the women at Georgetown University as much aspirin to put between their knees as possible,” a reference to remarks made by Santorum backer Foster Friess on MSNBC. He then characterized contraception coverage as “thievery” and said tax payers would be forced to pay the bills to “satisfy the sexual habits of female law students at Georgetown.”

As if that wasn’t enough, Rush Limbaugh then said things that confirmed just how big of an a-hole he is. “So, Ms. Fluke and the rest of you feminazis, here’s the deal,” Limbaugh said. “If we are going to pay for your contraceptives, and thus pay for you to have sex, we want something for it, and I’ll tell you what it is. We want you to post the videos online so we can all watch.”

That’s right ladies. Rush Limbaugh wants you to tape your sex lives so he can watch. He’s the exact definition of the word ‘pervert.’

But Limbaugh wasn’t through. As if calling Fluke a slut wasn’t enough, Limbaugh doubled down and went on a tirade against her, describing Fluke as “a woman who is happily presenting herself as an immoral, baseless, no-purpose-to-her life woman. She wants all the sex in the world whenever she wants it, all the time, no consequences. No responsibility for her behavior.”

Clear Channel, Limbaugh Ink $400 Million New Contract

By
Sarah McBride
Updated July 3, 2008 11:59 p.m. ET

Conservative radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh Wednesday inked an eight-year contract for around $400 million, underscoring how radio is spending big sums on bankable talent to compete in the crowded entertainment field.

Mr. Limbaugh's compensation of $38 million a year, plus a signing bonus of about $100 million is less in absolute terms than the five-year, $500 million contract Howard Stern cut in 2004 with Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. siri -0.80% But Mr. Limbaugh's contract could net him more, as Mr. Stern must pay costs for his cast and production.

It's a big jump from Mr. Limbaugh's last contract, which at $285 million was a record for a radio personality when he signed it in 2001. Since then, the weekly audience for his three-hour midday show has held steady at about 20 million listeners, according to his syndicator, Clear Channel Communications Inc.'s Premiere Radio Networks. But advertisers are increasingly anxious to reach that audience.

Mr. Limbaugh's show is the nation's most-listened-to, followed by fellow conservative Sean Hannity's show, distributed by ABC Radio Networks, a division of Citadel Broadcasting Corp. Premiere is in advanced talks with Mr. Hannity to try to woo him away for a sum in the $200 million range over eight years, a person familiar with the situation said. Representatives for Mr. Hannity didn't respond to requests for comment. A spokeswoman for Premiere declined to comment.

I don't know EIB's ownership, but I suspect that Limbaugh owns most, if not all, of EIB's equity. IOW, he owns the company that he works for, so for him to be fired, he would have to do it to himself.

I don't know anything about the contract between EIB and Clear Channel, but most contracts have termination provisions. The circumstances under which a contract can be terminated can vary greatly from one deal to another. I don't know whether what Limbaugh said rose to the level that allowed Clear Channel to terminate, assuming they wanted to. Without knowing the deal, I don't see how you can have an informed opinion about the Fluke thing or anything else Limbaugh has said.

At the end of the day, Bashir's situation is very different from Limbaugh's.

But I'd be very surprised if it didn't contain provisions requiring him to maintain certain standards in his broadcasts.

What Clear Channel did or didn't do is on them. I don't buy the argument that because Clear Channel let Limbaugh slide, MSNBC should ignore what Bashir said.

She's not a network journalist and can say whatever she wants.

Virtually all employees have a responsibility not to do things that damage their employer's image. If you do that, you will likely be disciplined and possibly fired. A network journalist has great public exposure and the responsibility not to say or do things that damage the network's image is especially great.

What Bashir said was outrageous. Just because you're covering a gavone, doesn't mean it's OK to act like one.

I have heard worse. And she may have the liberty of not being a network journalist, but the responsibility of a human being. Martin Bashir only said what some of us were thinking. I will say it again, Ms. Palin lets shit fly out her mouth at a moments notice, so I think she has already tasted feces. And the point of Bashir's comments were that too many people let the word slavery come out their mouth and don't know the ramifications that it has, or they know and just don't give a sweet you know what. Ms. Palin is the latter. The effects of bondage and free labor ring true to this very day. For anyone to compare almost 300 years of indentured servitude to anything is outrageous. There will be those who will say we have come a long way. I will be the one who will say we have not come far enough.

He's one of my favorite people on MSNBC.

Sources at the network said Bashir had been temporarily suspended from the network following graphic remarks he made last month about the former governor from Alaska. In that segment, Bashir suggested that Palin should be forced to endure slavery like conditions, including the consumption of feces.

MSNBC spokesperson Lauren Skowronski told a different story: "He’s still out on vacation," she wrote in an email. Asked multiple times when Bashir would return from vacation, Skowronski did not respond.

"After making an on-air apology, I asked for permission to take some additional time out around the Thanksgiving holiday.

Upon further reflection, and after meeting with the President of MSNBC, I have tendered my resignation. It is my sincere hope that all of my colleagues, at this special network, will be allowed to focus on the issues that matter without the distraction of myself or my ill-judged comments.

I deeply regret what was said, will endeavor to work hard at making constructive contributions in the future and will always have a deep appreciation for our viewers – who are the smartest, most compassionate and discerning of all television audiences. I would also wish to express deepest gratitude to my immediate colleagues, and our contributors, all of whom have given so much of themselves to our broadcast."
