http://www.thegodarticle.com/7/post/2013/06/10-things-you-cant-do-while-following-jesus.htmlI may have mentioned this already but Jesus was constantly including people. Jesus had this rebel streak in him that actually sought out folks who didn't fit in. People who were different, people who were marginalized, people who were made to feel unwanted in one way or another held a special place in the heart, life and actions of Jesus. I suspect he did it because he understood they weren't actually different at all. Touch the lepers (the untouchables). Do it.
8) Withhold healthcare from people.
Did you ever play the game Follow the Leader"? If you don't do what the leader does, you are out. Following means you should imitate as closely as possible. When people who were sick needed care, Jesus gave it to them. If we are following Jesus, we will imitate him as closely as possible. No, we can't repeat the miracles he did but I've seen modern medicine do things that are about as close to a miracle as I expect to get.

6) Let people go hungry.
When Jesus said, feed my sheep, it was about more than just a spiritual feeding. As a matter of fact, if Gandhi was right (and I suspect he was), you can't have one without the other: There are people in the world so hungry, that God cannot appear to them except in the form of bread. There is not a food shortage in the world -- there is enough for everyone. There is not a problem with having a distribution system capable of handling it; I can eat lobster from Maine while looking over the Pacific ocean. The problem is that we aren't very good at sharing.
5) Make money more important than God (and the children of God).
The love of money really is the root of all sorts of evil. We make choices about what we will do with our money every day. Our choices speak louder than our words. Willingly or not, our choices frequently hurt the least of these and others rather than help them. Sometimes, we even hurt ourselves. Our money is so important to us, we are willing to shop at stores because their prices are cheaper even though we know the products they sell recklessly endanger the lives of those who make them. We buy food which is mass produced with disregard for their health implications because the farmer down the road is more expensive. We'd rather keep more of our money than pay the taxes it takes to provide for those in need. We have a money problem.

(55,981 posts)I had a hard time putting my thoughts in words. We should all follow a path similar to Jesus whether or not we believe. I guess those that profess to follow and dont, add hypocrisy to their sins.
And I am sorry but I am not familiar with your avatar, will you explain?

(8,170 posts)Many who post there know how objectionable it is to cherry pick from the Bible - because you can find chapter and verse in the Bible to promote nearly anything.
Ok, let's run through the list.
(10) through (7); essentially the same point repeated 4 times and arguable in that the salvation he promised was probably for the Jews alone.
6) "Feed my sheep" was probably only about spiritual tending, appears in John alone and in a heavily edited section meant to establish Peter as the leader of the Church. Alternative translations have it as "Tend my sheep," and "Shepherd my sheep,"
5) The importance of money. Well, sort of ... except the parts where he preaches that are the apocalyptic sections and how money won't be needed for long. And that whole "render unto Caesar" thing? was literally true, there was a special coinage used at the temple for offerings - hence the money changers. BTW he did not object to money changers outside the Temple
4) Judge others. Essentially the same as (10) through (7) except the whole point is that somehow God is allowed to judge and if you pass on making judgment then there are huge numbers of criminals, psychopaths, preachers and politicians who will get a free pass to do what they like. What is more many of those will justify what they do by - quoting the Bible.
3) Be physically aggressive or violent. Excuse me but this the same Jesus who had his disciples buy swords and who declared he came not to bring peace but a sword and who promised to set family members against one another.
2) Use the church to hurt people. I've read the Bible several times but I never saw anything about that, indeed there is the whole thing in Matthew 10: 34 - 35 again.
1) Hate. See (3) through (2)

(8,170 posts)The whole point is that the Bible is a mishmash of pre-existing tales, primitive legend, outright forgery, borrowings from Pagan teaching and non-Jewish philosophy.
Do you truly believe that the preachers of the Prosperity Gospel do not quote from the same Bible as egalitarians? Or that anti-Semites do not quote the Gospel of John to support the claim that Jews murdered the Christ? Advocates of slavery used this same Bible to back up their practises and could show that Jesus claimed to wholly follow the Jewish Law which allowed and excused slavery. I've seen second amendment purists claim that Luke 22:36 supports the right to bear arms. Do you imagine that Calvinists cannot support their claim that only a predestined Elect will be saved by quoting from the Bible?
To justify the claim that Jesus was a Liberal you have to discount or discard huge portions of the text which shows he was no such thing. Do that and you are casting doubt on the legitimacy of the texts that you do choose to believe.

(49,533 posts)Their 10 items you can't do while following Jesus likely include:
Support abortion rights
Condone homosexuality
Use government instead of individual donations and church charities to help people
Etc.
Regarding those first two, there's no record of Jesus having anything to say about either of them so anyone's guess is as good as anyone else's. For the third, there are quotes attributed to Jesus that can be used to support that position ("render unto Caesar" .
Anyway, I think we have about 2000 years of history showing us the effectiveness of screaming "No, you're wrong! Jesus said THIS!" at each other. Feel free to keep trying I guess.
