(27,247 posts)I wonder what the weather in Northwest Arkansas is right now? Probably about the same?

(51,076 posts)I'm a real go getter this morning, took my wife to work and now I'll have to go get 'er later today. Anyways I only have a mile to go and didn't have any problems. I learned years ago to just go slow. Another thing I've learned to do is put the park brake on a couple three notches so when I touch the brake pedal it doesn't slide the front tires. Not enough to put a drag on the wheels, just enough to take up the slack in the brake shoes. Makes a big difference in stopping.

(27,247 posts)I try to avoid driving in snow whenever possible, but it is good to know such things in case I am caught in the snow. One of the big problems around here is trying to crawl up curvy hills when it is snowing.

(27,247 posts)from relatives in NWA. Apparently, there is so much snow that banks and even post offices are shortening hours or closing altogether And it's supposed to be worse in Fort Smith!
When I was a kid, I got a sled for Christmas one year-- but over the course of 9 or 10 winters, I only had 2 chances to use it because it almost never snowed. Now it seems like there's a big snow there every year.

(51,076 posts)4 and 5 years ago it was a totally different story though. We had Ice storms both winters with most people around here loosing power for a couple weeks. We were lucky and only lost power for 4 hours or so both winters.
Most of this storm went south of us which would put it in the fort smith area
We've got about 4 inches of sleet and snow here but as you got east they got more.
I'm too old for this shit

(31,515 posts)There's 1/2 to 1 inch of solid ice on everything already and the snow is supposed to last all day. I'm going to throttle the first person who tells me how beautiful it is. Bert.

(22,308 posts)If the hot springs do freeze over, will the pressure underneath continue to build so that when they start to thaw there might be a "water volcano" kind of eruption?
Wow, I must not be fully awake yet.

There's not a chance in hell they will freeze over. 5000 gallons/minute
But it would be interesting.

(41,694 posts)I'm not going anywhere until it gets above freezing. Not with all the amateur drivers here. These idiots will do 70 and tailgate you when it's clear and dry, they'll do it when it's raining and they'll try when it's freezing.
I have no doubts about my driving skills on snow and ice, but these people here have NONE.

(3,414 posts)It's icy up here, and I completely agree about the drivers here. I called my boss and told him I would be in later when the temp goes up and the traffic goes away. Stay warm and safe!

(31,893 posts)There's a real qualitative difference the further below -10 the temperature gets. :brr:
