Search for San Jose family scaled back - MT plane crash

The search in a remote part of Idaho for a single-engine airplane that carried five members of a San Jose family was scaled back Friday after days of fruitless searching in poor weather, authorities said.

Search teams reported that they have "exhausted every option in finding the plane" piloted by Dale Smith of San Jose, said Robert Feeley, spokesman for the Idaho Bureau of Homeland Security.

Smith's son Daniel, daughter-in-law Sheree, daughter Amber and her fiance, Jonathan Norton, were also on board. The group took off from Baker City, Ore., about 11 a.m. Sunday and was flying to Butte, Mont.

Two hours into the trip, Dale Smith reported experiencing problems with the engine and maintaining altitude, authorities said. Officials soon lost radar and cell tower contact.

current location? Wish more could be done to safely locate this plane even in difficult terrain and terrible weather. Guess this proves we are not tracked 24/7.

terrain in the country, they went down during the blizzard we had and now that it's been well below 0F they are not likely to survive long, and then there are bears in that part too.

And as I write this, a regional news update (radio) claims that there is a continued search including 5 aircraft today. That report coming from Idaho. This is not all that far from where that kidnapper and the young girl from San Diego were found. Really rough country. And it's really cold around these parts. Hope they find them but I doubt they will be alive or in any condition to survive even if found alive.
