False Equivalence in a Nutshell...
This weekend we drove from PA to Vermont to a wedding. As we drove into Brattleboro, we were greeted by a Senior Citizen complete with a cane AND purple hair, waving a brightly colored rainbow peace sign at traffic. A wave and a honk from us and other cars brought a big smile to this person, braving the cold to send a message that was important to her. She represents the "left flank" of the Democratic Party or what I call the "North Star". We may not all be perfectly tolerant and peaceful....but it's certainly a darn good direction to head in.
Contrast this to the "Right Flank" - the Gilberton PA Police Chief - the Mark Kesslers of the world - calling people to arms in the name of our Constitution (taking our Constitution in vain for sure) and the rightwing people ThinkThink is always reporting on so well (see his latest below). They are filled with hate, venom and encourage others to hate and fear. Or consider the Rush Limbaughs of the world -calling the Pope himself a Marxist when he dared to ask people to be mindful of the poor.
Now consider that the media is always trying to conflate the two "flanks" and see what an egregious injustice the false equivalence truly is.
