There is a guy who lives across from me who has been a bit of a nuisance for sometime ...he calls me whenever I get something published and he is not happy!! He goes on an on about Obama and he has a foreman who works for him who he says is even worse than him. Obama can do nothing right and liberals are no good ..on and on and on '
I have actually come home only to find he has left a message on my phone calling me a communist and so on.. It got so bad that I went to the police about it..
Today I came home and there was another message..."This is XXXX. My foreman, a staunch conservative, who listens to Rush and Sean and Glenn Beck and is a big fan of theirs. Today he went to the Obamacare website and FOUND HE COULD SAVE OVER $200 A MONTH! I GUESS OBAMACARE IS WORKING! and he is NOW A BIG OBAMA MAN!"
You have no idea what a change this is.,.and all I can say is, "this is it folks,.,.,.its either us or them and it looks like..if we play this right,,it will be them! Listen up righties "This town ain't big enough for both of us, ..you better git while the gittin's good!"

(3,922 posts)I am vocal about my politics and I never have anyone complain to me about Obama or liberals. I don't ever hear people bitching about politics in the store. I never hear people bitching about Obama at work.

(11,804 posts)There are communities where liberals keep quiet in public for fear of getting in fights and the like; there are probably communities where conservatives do the same.
It also depends on what the local culture is like - there are still plenty of Americans who feel like you shouldn't discuss politics or anything people might disagree on.

Maybe it's a Minnesota thing.

(6,682 posts)I'm in Texas now, but when I lived in Tennessee, a random idiot at a gas station told me that someone should shoot Obama and we should fight our wars by smashing our enemies' children's heads against a wall and raping their women. I got in his face about it, but then I got scared. He was flat out insane.

(2,795 posts)I hear nothing but Obama hate where I live. So many cars have conservative bumper stickers against Obama or abortion bumper stickers. I'm in a very conservative county in Colorado and everyone assumes everyone else hates Obama and the govt just as much as they do. I have heard the dad of one of my son's friend tell me he didn't like his son playing shooting games like Battlefied etc, unless, of course, if the game was shooting democrats Another dad flat out said, "I hate the left, I really really hate the left." Among so much more. I keep quiet and to myself. I am way outnumbered and these are tea baggy, irrational conservatives so it's not even worth trying.

You learn to keep your mouth shut down here. In 2008 during the run up to the election, I had just started working with a bunch of North Georgia folk and hid in the closet until I couldn't take it anymore; and I blasted some frothing at the mouth, asshole reacting to some Fox news story in the cafeteria at lunch. Yeah, Fox News is all you get at work down here, even the commercial establishments.
I honestly believe I was the first "librul" they had ever met. It really was scary when I over heard two, otherwise nice, Christian women discussing how they wish somebody would just "shoot the son of a bitch" the day after the 2008 election.
My wife cautioned me that morning not to go in there and gloat.
You ought to try it sometime, it's a pretty delicate dance. Contrary to what you have experienced, I didn't know there were people like ones populating this site until a year and a half ago, I thought you all went extinct with Reagan's first term, so it has been pretty satisfying seeing these tea bag assholes destroy the strangle hold conservatism has had on this nation.

(12,132 posts)with a vocal Tea-bag republican. There are a lot of them here. I don't mind his rants because it means I get to rant too and we do all day every day. It's fun sometimes but not when he says REALLY stupid things. I consider him a friend though so maybe that's why we can get away with the stuff we say to each other.
I work for a pretty large company and there's all kinds here - the company itself is pretty progressive as far as equality goes but maybe not so far as pay goes lol.
But in my town I can hear rants about Obama every day. I see cars on my way to and from work that have all kinds of Anti-Obama sentiments - not just stickers for the repubs, it's hate-damn-filled bile for anything liberal or left or Dem. There's a fundie crhistian guy with a truck who put up large wooden sidewalls extending upwards from the truck bed so he could write all his abortionists are murderers/Obama is satan/antichrist/communist/etc.../liberals are the ruination of society and other shit. I used to see another truck fairly often that had several pro-KKK stickers.
I hear it in line at the grocery store, at the movies, at restaurants. I just figure they're mad because they lost. Laughable idiots really.
On the other hand, I hear and see a lot of Liberal stuff too. Maybe not cars fixed up just to espouse the liberal POV but a lot of good bumper stickers.

(24,096 posts)... hehe you will find more than enough of those kind right here on DU. Don't have to go looking in teabag swamps.
for example, one particular poster just couldn't bring herself to thank the President and John Kerry, SoS with the Iranian peace deal, so she thanked the Iranian leader instead. All innocent, of course. But coming from someone who never once had anything decent to say about President Obama, well, that tells me something that I already knew tho.

(10,751 posts)...to get this post in front of more people: by responding to a post you "kick" it and keep it active and on the first page of the forum. The other thing is to check the DU Rec button at the bottom of any original post. Getting enough of those will put a post on the first page of the site itself.

(9,033 posts)starts calling it the Affordable Care Act instead of Obamacare--which they did today apparently.
Give it a month or two (or a day or two) and you will have people on the street saying the ACA is way better than the socialistic, big government Obamacare, and crediting the Republicans for the "change". It is beyond their capacity to imagine Obama doing something good for them.

(62,406 posts)not a neighbor, but lived in the same small town.
After Bush was put in again in 2004, he called me out of the blue and said some nasty shit. Then did it again a couple months later.
I went to the police because I seriously thought this guy might hurt me. Then something happened (found out later his boy was really fucked up in Iraq). He drove by one day. I pulled out my phone and I said "Do anything and the cops will be here in 30 seconds" - and he said "No I want to apologize - you were right." He shook my hand and said I would never see him again.
