Paul Ryan made the budget deal with Patty Murray simply because the Repubs did not want any distractions from the "Obamacare" issue, which they think is going to win back the Senate for them next year. Maybe it will and maybe it won't?
They are putting all their eggs in the "Obamacare" basket. Limbaugh and Hannity and all of right-wing radio go on and on about it for 3 hours at a time every day. They are betting that their propaganda system is good enough to beat the Democrats on the healthcare issue, no matter how Obamacare turns out. They are in the midst of a PR blitzkrieg.
Looking at all the polls, the Republicans are encouraged that they are doing the right strategy. They have no plans to shut down the government or not extend the debt limit or to do anything that might distract from the "Obamacare" issue. This is the decision they have made.
Democrats must understand the nature of the battle. They must persuade the people that Obamacare is working and will work in the future. We cannot return to the days when insurance companies had all the power to deny coverage or to charge people whatever they wanted.
Democrats must stay on the offensive. They must be ready to counter every argument that the Republicans make against Obamacare. In the end, before the next election, most people will see that their insurance coverage has not changed at all or has changed for the better. The Republicans are speaking for a very small percentage of the people.

(31,849 posts)than just attempt to counter the ObamaCare lies. I believe, maybe naively, that ObamaCare will take care of itself ... as, those actually visiting the exchanges are signing up, and therefore do not believe the lies and the vast majority of those believing the ObamaCare horror story aren't going to exchanges and won't be swayed by anything Democrats say.
No, seating Democrats should start introducing Jobs Bills and legislation to extend U/C ... IOWs, legislation that gives Democratic candidates something concrete to campaign on and that forcing republicans (seating and candidates) to come out on.
