How much difference is there between Democratic Party Leaders and Republican

Party leaders.

Not talking about the rank and file or stated positions - but in the way these two groups act and the policies they actually promote and fight for.

1. There are differences on social issues (e.g., gay marriage), but fiscal and military? Not so much.

Certainly not enough to be able to say that either Party is representing the People.

with secret, propitiatory firmware and software.

The campaigners lie to us. Our party leaders decide who we can vote for. There is little to no truth expressed when campaigning, plus most candidates have learned the ability to talk without really saying anything. We then fill in the blanks with what we want to hear.
Our "Representatives" of both parties vote on large bills (read very many pages) hours after receiving them, with no time to go through the bill to find the odd paragraph(s). To say nothing of the bills written entirely by various corporations and/or their lobbyists, for their benefit and our detriment. Both parties are guilty of not having "We the people..." in mind. Differing only in the matter of degree.
Our system of campaign financing guarantees bought and paid for representation for the highest bidder.
You and I have been priced out of the market. We cannot afford to buy our representation any more.
