Pope Francis slams super salaries for the rich while the poor survive on “crumbs”

Pope Francis has made yet another strongly worded statement on growing inequality and economic justice, this time slamming outsize salaries and bonuses for corporate executives while others survive on “crumbs.”

In a message to mark the Catholic Church’s World Peace Day, Francis called on international leaders and corporate executives to implement “effective policies” to bridge the growing wealth gap.

“The grave financial and economic crises of the present time … have pushed man to seek satisfaction, happiness and security in consumption and earnings out of all proportion to the principles of a sound economy,” he said. ”The succession of economic crises should lead to a timely rethinking of our models of economic development and to a change in lifestyles,” he said.

Rush Limbaugh has yet to comment, but presumably he thinks President Obama is currently having an orgasm somewhere.

What's with Limbaugh's obsession with sex? Probably because he rarely gets any.

Pope is really making some good enemies this year. This must be said loudly, repeatedly by someone who is not under the control of corporate pigs.

As far as Rush is concerned, I doubt he's ever had sex with a woman. His wives won't even live under the same roof as him they live in other buildings on his guarded estates where he spends his life in his own little bunker spewing filth daily. He blames the whole world for his life, which is a sham. He lies for Koch brothers money.

He's just unflushed fecal matter in this life. Yet he's on AFN, shredding the conscience of service members and inciting insurrection and disrespect for lawful authority.

Not a peep. Not even from so-called Democrats. It's as if everything Francis says doesn't exist.

Pope.

Where does it say in the bible "blessed are the peacemakers?" Where does it say "care for the poor?" Where does it say "love thy neighbor?"

What bible is this guy reading? I thought Jesus said "the wealthy are chosen by God and poverty is a punishment for sin." Oh way. . .that's Jesus's evil clone Jeebus!

Is it really radical anymore to say such things? Rather than beg the rich to be generous with "their" money, why
can't the people assert their right to at least a part of it? A lot of liberals are still are afraid of using the phrase
"wealth redistribution." I see no reason for such fear anymore - I think it's an idea whose time has finally come.

[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]The man from Assisi has always been my favorite saint, and this Pope carries his spirit of kindness, gentleness, and love for those less fortunate forward in a way that is sorely needed in this world.

No, he's not perfect. No, he's not addressing all the issues we'd like to see addressed. But he also has the obstacle of the entrenched (and probably quite conservative) Curia to deal with in much the same way that President Obama has a hostile Congress to deal with.

While I don't buy into the doctrine and dogma like I once did, I do believe that it serves as a spiritual and moral guide for many people. The Pope's word carries tremendous weight with those people and he can move them in the right direction.

Pope Francis is focused on and speaking to humanity's (and the gospels') greatest perennial issue, the poor and the powerless, and that thrills me. I can't wait until he meets with both the Dalai Lama and President Obama.

As a liberal Catholic (by birth-I'm not close to being loyal if it goes against my values) I will be the first to cheer when Francis backs up his words with concrete actions. Keep up the talk, but pretty soon he'll have to make some changes that are going to upset the wrong (meaning powerful) people.

So much is shrouded in secrecy, its hard to tell if the obscene level of wealth that is admitted is even accurate. Even better, make the proper changes needed to comply with worldwide anti-money laundering standards.

I insulted no one, made no disparaging comments towards the religious beliefs of the Church or those who follow it's tenets.

Do you have a rebuttal for the comments I put forth? They have long been debated by those much more scholarly than I.

If the Pope were massaging the rich folks egos and asking them for more money for the Church, instead of berating them for their lack of concern for the poor I might join you in criticizing the effort.
