The 2013 ALEC Conference in Washington, featuring keynote speakers Paul Ryan and Ted Cruz, will focus on ways to eliminate GREEN ENERGY in favor of the good old Fossil Fuels industry. (I guess they figured they've done enough to ensure the profits of the Gun Manufacturers, and were ignoring their other patrons?)
They are even going so far as to push FINANCIAL PENALTIES against people who put SOLAR PANELS on their own roofs. Observe a little bit of their handywork in Arizona, and see what lies ahead in YOUR State.
"In November, Arizona became the first state to charge utility customers for installing solar panels. The fee, which works out to about $5 a month for the average homeowner, was far lower than that sought by the main electricity company, which was seeking to add up to $100 a month to customers bills.
Gabe Elsner, director of the Energy and Policy Institute, said the attack on small-scale solar was part of the larger ALEC project to block clean energy. They are trying to eliminate pro-solar policies in the states to protect utility industry profits, he said."
So, let me get this straight. The Electrical Utility companies (via their sockpuppet ALEC) want to lobby State governments to charge households a fee for NOT using THEIR electricity? Nice racket, guys.

(14,255 posts)Yup. Protection of profits. Should be illegal, not something that is fucking legislated.
Maybe this will hasten the development of efficient and cost-effective storage batteries and neighborhood co-ops.
What is strange is that Google, with its Solar City partnership, also has joined ALEC. Maybe they also own interests in power companies, and want to skim profits on both sides.

(14,255 posts)Profit is king, a distant second is imposing private beliefs and convictions onto others. Perhaps the rush of power factors as another driver.

(11,994 posts)penalties for rooftop solar are so great that people are dismantling their systems. The penalty or fine applies to all systems whether they feed back into the grid or not.
OTOH, Australia has just passed the 3GW marker mainly because of rooftop solar PV. Now, 14% of their electrical power is supplied by solar.
I refer to this charge as a penalty or fine. When someone objects, I ask them whether they are proposing implementing a new TAX. It shuts them up.
