(17,199 posts)Ron Burgundy is dumber than a dolphin. Were at Sea World in San Diego on the very last day of filming for Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues and a coliseum of extras is watching Will Ferrell lose a fight with a sleek, gray bottlenose who without training dismisses his insults by blowing air out of her hole and swimming away.
Its been ten years since San Diego became the home of stay classy. In the decade since, the city has become so grateful for the free publicity that theyve been happy to shut down one of the citys main attractions for a day so that director Adam McKay could film Burgundys drunken downfall getting booed off the stage of an aquatic show, all for Anchorman 2.

I recently watched the new trailer for the movie Anchorman 2. I enjoy movies including the original Anchorman, but it's because I love animals even more that I will not see this sequel. The trailer clearly shows a scene filmed inside SeaWorld and numerous media reports back this up. I will not support SeaWorld's animal cruelty, and I am surprised that co-producers Will Ferrell, Judd Apatow, and Adam McKay are excited to promote a business with such an extensive history of poor treatment of animals ...
What I have against Seaworld really is the fact that after everything that has come out about the captive wildlife trade, they still insist on keeping orcas and dolphins working in their theme parks for entertainment and profit, not species conservation. Here are some very recent examples from this year. This is all aside from trainers who have been injured or died as detailed in many places including the documentary Blackfish.
-On August 25, 2013 a four year old female beluga named Bella died at SeaWorld in Texas.
-On August 6, 2013, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association denied a permit which would have allowed SeaWorld to display wild caught beluga whales at all three of its US locations. Included in their reasoning was "five of the beluga whales proposed for import, estimated to be approximately 1.5 years old at the time of capture, were potentially still nursing and not yet independent." ...
The Anchorman 2 movie will only help to boost the positive and misleading illusion of whales and dolphins in captivity. It is time to remove Seaworld's lies from the pop culture and keep exposing the truth. Being a movie fan, I know Will Ferrell and Judd Apatow can be funny without supporting animal cruelty.

(31,464 posts)It's not the same.
That said, while I understand why people are so upset, it must be remembered how recently "Blackfish" first aired on CNN. And how long it took to film "Anchorman 2." Given the expense that went into the production, the time involved, and the rewrites required to simply eliminate the SeaWorld part of the story, I'd guess that Ferrell and Apatow didn't even realize the controversy at the time they were filming. I'm not making excuses for them, really. I saw "Blackfish" and it made me sick to my stomach, and genuinely sad. I, too, wish they would not feature SeaWorld in the "Anchorman" sequel. I also realize that it's not necessarily as easy as just cutting out a seen. We have no idea of what contractual obligations, etc, might be involved.
I didn't realize this scene was in the movie...I haven't seen the full trailer. It gives me second thoughts about seeing it (not that I'd actually pay to see it in a theater anyway).
