Megyn Kelly Says We Are a Bunch of Humorless Race Baiters for not Getting Her Joke

Here's my question: Why Is Megyn Kelly Still On The Air And Martin Bashir Isn't?

Megyn Kelly Says We Are a Bunch of Humorless Race Baiters for not Getting Her Joke
By: Hrafnkell Haraldsson

Megyn Kelly took a day off from her show "The Kelly File" to think about how she wanted to respond to the furor she had caused by saying Jesus and St. Nick were white guys.

After some no doubt weighty reflection, she decided, and came back Friday not to apologize for being a not-very-bright racist but to tell us all that because we did not recognize her "lighthearted" and "off-hand jest" Wednesday for what it was, we don't have a sense of humor – oh, and that we're just a bunch of race baiters taking cheap shots at "powerful" Fox News.

Yes, as you no doubt all suspected all along, it was us humorless "libruls" getting the black folks riled up, and you know how much cranky old conservative whitey hates and fears riled up black folks. They've tried for years to push Obama into this sort of "riled up" reaction so he can justify their fears, and Megyn Kelly didn't hesitate to blame the victim Friday night.

In kicking off the lighthearted segment, I offered a tongue-in-cheek message for any kids watching, saying that Santa, who I joked is a real person whose race is identifiable, is white.

I realize that the piece by Harris, that went on to argue that Santa should be a ‘penguin' was also tongue in cheek. That's part of why we covered the story in the first place — humor is a part of what we try to bring to this show, but sometimes that's lost on the humorless.

Cue the firestorm of controversy over my declaring Santa's skin color, many questioning whether I understand Santa is a mythical figure. Others suggesting I am a racist who is outraged at the idea of a white Santa.

(Cue Kelly presenting a bunch of black people daring to be offended by Kelly's little joke)

Well, this would be funny if it were not so telling about our society, in particular the knee-jerk instinct by so may to race bait and to assume the worst in people. Especially people employed by the very powerful Fox News channel.

It only works for Republicans. Had Martin Bashir gone on the air the Monday after he slapped down Sarah Palin's racism and said "just kidding", I seriously doubt the results would have been any different.

Palin shouldn't use slave anologies if she doesn't know what in the hell she is taking about. The double standard is alive & well.

Throughout the history of humanity, would-be comedians have suffered from the inability of the audience to grasp the subtlety of their humor. "If only those dumb-asses would get it!"

I wasn't aware that an anchor of a highly rated "news" program was a would-be comedian. At least not intentionally

it impairs your ability to see the humor in it when someone swings a stick at you again in that old, familiar way.

At least that's what she said the other night... Maybe she was joking then too... I guess we will just have to consider that everything she says is a joke, probably the safest thing to do with any Fox News "personality".

Ironic, isn't it, that a network that calls itself "Fox NEWS" is one of the funniest sources of entertainment around, while a network that calls itself "COMEDY Central" is the most reliable source of news on the air.

just reading her words you get the vitriol with which she said what she said. Watching the videos cements the deal.

Because she has over 2.2 million viewers, and her viewers in the demo are three times his total viewers.

Anyone can look up these numbers via TVbythenumbers, but working in TV, I can tell you that she'd have to do/say something far, far worse than he did to even be considered for removal by her bosses.

I do of course realize that Megyn Kelly will stay on the air for as long as Fox can make a profit, but I'm not sure it's fair to compare ratings for a show that was aired at 4 in the afternoon to one that airs at 9, in the middle of prime time. If Bashir's problem was low ratings, wouldn't they have moved him out of his slot before now anyway? MSNBC has habitually shuffled their time slots before - like moving Ed Schultz from 6pm to 8pm, then to weekends, then back to 5pm. My personal opinion (and its just an opinion) is that Bashir is off the air for the same reason that Kelly is on the air - the corporations that control the American media want to keep conservative messages front and center and do everything they can to minimize views that aren't conservative.

It's simply more difficult to replace someone with over 2 million viewers than it is for someone who has less than 200,000, regardless of what time slot they're in and regardless of whether they're up against each other in a time slot.

As for Bashir's dismissal, I don't think it has anything to do with MSNBC giving in to some kind of corporate conspiracy to keep liberals off the air. If that were true, why are all the other primetime hosts on that channel still on the air?

I don't watch any of them. Can't stand Fox and MSNBC.

By the way, the old saying "comparing apples and oranges" never made sense. Compare means to find similarities and differences. So you can indeed compare apples and oranges.
