I have seen a few and none of them are locked? Please tell us or are you just being preemptive. I would just do a post that Skinner says the Mods need to give leeway for I do not know how long.

You can also ensure they will not be locked and put them in two areas that are gun related if talking about guns or gun violence.

Especially this part:

which explains why the "exception" was/is there in the first place. DUers, imo, have had quite enough of that in GD.

Again: 2 "gun" groups ALREADY exist; one for open debate, the other for a more singular outlook.

Gun violence is a huge problem in this country; we should be able to discuss this issue in GD.

the problem is that every gun related thread degrades into an " I know you are, what am I?" bunch of namecalling by people. Usually before the post even makes it 1/2 down the latest page.

Even here it seems people are unable to actually discuss this issue.

on edit added second sentence.

It is like pit bull threads, instead of discussing the issue, people declare their position, so it is a gerbil wheel of the same over and over, not a discussion at all.

9. Sadly, the tragedy at Sandy Hook is about GUNS

The two issues are one and the same .... senseless tragic gun violence in the US.

I noted last night the school shooting in Colorado threads were also locked .... I can only assume because senseless gun violence is inextricably linked to the tragedy.

I don't understand ... this is news ... important news. I am sorry that it offends some, but that doesn't erase the facts or the tragedies

The problem arises when the raw & repetitive hatred by, mainly, gun controller/banners quickly pollutes any respectful debate. For a time over the last year it seemed GD was sanctifying hate and smear which, imo, contributed to a spread of animosity to other completely different topics, like a bad habit learned well. This is what offends a lot of DUers.
