The barbs continue to fly between House Speaker John Boehner and tea party groupsand the two sides appear to be entering an all-out war.
The speakers being absurd, Heritage Action CEO Michael Needham said Friday onThe Daily Rundown.
On Thursday, Boehner blasted Needham but not by name for organizing the defund Obamacare ploy and later claiming the group knew all along it couldnt do away with the law altogether. Frankly, I just think that theyve lost all credibility, Boehner said of the far-right conservative groups. You know, they pushed us into this fight to defund Obamacare and to shut down the government. Most of you know, my members know, that wasnt exactly the strategy that I had in mind. But if you recall, the day before the government reopened, one of the people that one of these groups stood up and said, Well, we never really thought it would work. Are you kidding me?

I just don't get tired of this stuff - I wish the Repubs only more of this. Pass the popcorn indeed!

(5,364 posts)There is no doubt at all the TP is a corrosive influence on the culture of politics and the shaping of the debate on public policy, And, they are becoming a loud minority of increasingly insane nutjobs; leading one to believe they'll eventually be marginalized out of effectivity, if not outright extinction.
However:
If the GOP succeeds in purging them from the party, more of the middle ( or what passes for the middle these days ) may support republicans where they may have supported democratic candidates owing to the teabaggers's nutjobbery.

(12,448 posts)1. Boehner didn't have "that strategy" -- defund Obamacare & shut down the government -- in mind.
2. In addition, "my members" knew this (and presumably, some of them agreed with Boehner)
3. Boehner implemented "that strategy," which he disagreed with, anyway.
4. He's now shocked, shocked that not only it didn't work, but "one of these groups" declared they knew all along that it wouldn't work.
Ye gods, how stupid can you get?

(26,598 posts)I'm seriously sick of this pious, holier than thou bullshit that has shoved aside common sense and humanity. America is a mess, with people rotting in prison for petty crimes while the rich literally get away with murder. Something's got to change and soon.

(107 posts)They empowered the Tea Party and turned it from a fringe group into an unyielding, uncompromising, reckless, arrogant force to be reckoned with in the US House -- through intimidation, gerrymandering, and primary challenges to more centrist candidates, the Tea Party has been able to wield a great deal of power. Big money can no longer control the monster they created. The government shutdown hurt BUSINESS interests and shocked them into awakening because it was so senseless and stupid, but it happened anyway -- it hurt big money interests that run so much in this country. It jeopardized the US credit rating. It wasted billions of dollars for nothing. I think Speaker Boehner has been given his new orders by the Chamber of Commerce and their ilk: "get these crazy people out of power!" And this is what we now see in him. He hasn't developed a backbone. He is following orders.

(63 posts)If your enemy is secure at all points, be prepared for him. If he is in superior strength, evade him. If your opponent is temperamental, seek to irritate him. Pretend to be weak, that he may grow arrogant. If he is taking his ease, give him no rest. If his forces are united, separate them. If sovereign and subject are in accord, put division between them. Attack him where he is unprepared, appear where you are not expected.

Consider how arrogant the right wing was after the mid term elections. And now....not so much.

(9,457 posts)with it. I smell an excuse for the Republican failures of the last several years. We're the good guys, we couldn't do what we wanted because of the tea party, re-elect us and we'll be more like that Reagan guy you love so much. The tea party and Republicans need to split in such a way that this leaves stink on both of them. Can't let Boehner off the hook.
