If we want our progressive message to be seen and heard, I ask where is it in mainstream America?

So the selling stats will be that way. NYT knows of the issue but has not been able to come with a solution in 20 years or so. It is perception control.

If this was the result of bulk selling, presumably from wholesalers, these books would not be ranked highly for sales at Amazon. They are. As painful as it is, people are really buying this crap.

Think-tanks and special interest groups buy them in bulk, then give them away (or offer them for really cheap) with membership to the group.

This happens on the left and right.

It's about time for the NYT and USA Today lists to stop counting these as "sales." As someone who rarely reads non-fiction, I don't care all that much, but still it would be nice to see the bestseller lists reflect true sales.

Then sold to the gullible mouth breathers at the full suggested retail
price at the author's speaking gigs or at other RW political gatherings.

and conservative groups buy books up in bulk, selling them for a dollar.

It's not really representative.

like dickens.

i'm a liberal and i don't think i ever really buy a book just because it was by some liberal who pretty much say what i already agree with.

i would buy things like krugman to become informed and he is an actual economist.

but i'm not going to buy something just because some liberal pundit wrote it.

but this isn't anything unusual. it's why the right wing does well with things like talk radio. these people just want to read or hear people say things they already agree with.

i think liberals are better at things like telling a story which is why films usually have a liberal message and do well and conservatives fail in that area.
