From CNN:
The rampage might have resulted in many more casualties had it not been for the quick response of a deputy sheriff who was working as a school resource officer at the school, Robinson said.
Once he learned of the threat, he ran -- accompanied by an unarmed school security officer and two administrators -- from the cafeteria to the library, Robinson said. "It's a fairly long hallway, but the deputy sheriff got there very quickly."
The deputy was yelling for people to get down and identified himself as a county deputy sheriff, Robinson said. "We know for a fact that the shooter knew that the deputy was in the immediate area and, while the deputy was containing the shooter, the shooter took his own life."
He praised the deputy's response as "a critical element to the shooter's decision" to kill himself, and lauded his response to hearing gunshots. "He went to the thunder," he said. "He heard the noise of gunshot and, when many would run away from it, he ran toward it to make other people safe."

(4,631 posts)3. That armed deputy very most likely saved many lives by being there
The shooter must have considered his options of life locked up or the easy way out.

The link is from WillyT's thread.
Confronted by the officer, the teen committed suicide less than a minute and a half after he entered the building, armed with a shotgun and multiple rounds of ammunition that he purchased legally, the sheriff said.
Robinson said the response of a school resource officer was absolutely critical to the fact that that there were no additional injuries or deaths.
The deputy sheriff then ran through a long hallway from the cafeteria to the library. While the deputy was containing the shooter, the shooter took his own life at the north end of the library, Robinson said.

It's a good thing that the deputy was on campus
Could have been much worse

(18,101 posts)6. I wonder why Lasher's thread was locked
It was pretty much the same as this one - just a different source.
Here's what Skinner says about sources in GD
LBN only permits reputable mainstream sources. GD does not have that limitation.
If a source is not reputable, people can reply (or send it to a jury) and explain why a source is not reputable. It all comes out in the discussion.
Having said that... if a source is a kooky conspiracy site or a hate site, then it might not be okay in GD either.

Lasher's information was accurate and his source was not a kooky conspiracy site or a hate site.
