The right wing idiot parade continues to weigh in on Duck Dynasty

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) on Thursday became the latest politician to defend Phil Robertson, a cast member of the reality show "Duck Dynasty" who was suspended from the television network A&E after making graphic anti-gay comments and saying African-Americans were "singing and happy" before civil rights in the South.

"Phil Robertson and his family are great citizens of the State of Louisiana," Jindal said in a statement. "The politically correct crowd is tolerant of all viewpoints, except those they disagree with."

Jindal did not specifically condemn Robertson's comments. "I don’t agree with quite a bit of stuff I read in magazine interviews or see on TV. In fact, come to think of it, I find a good bit of it offensive," he said. "But I also acknowledge that this is a free country and everyone is entitled to express their views. In fact, I remember when TV networks believed in the First Amendment. It is a messed up situation when Miley Cyrus gets a laugh, and Phil Robertson gets suspended."

Jindal has a misguided notion about the First Amendment. While the Constitution covers free speech from government interference, private businesses are generally free to punish their employees for what they say. ...................(more)

to support something (i.e. duck dynasty, the grifter, whatever) are suddenly accused of violating someone's first amendment rights (which, as KO used to point out, was about the GOVERNMENT curtailing speech).

hey, free, unfettered capitalism, anyone? companies getting to decide what they will or will not do, or support, or offer, based on decisions about their bottom line???? sucks when your own "principles", such as they are, bite you in the butt, eh?

The Duck Guy exercised his 1st amendment rights to be a moron. The people exercised their 1st amendment rights to call him on it. A&E exercised their right as a Free MArket Capitalist Corporation to not lose money by suspending him.

Where exactly is the problem? What I see here is America working exactly as intended Everyone's rights are firmly in place and A&E continues to make money.

The fucking right wing is off it's nut, they scream about free speech and capitalism until it exposes them for what they are. Then they cry "oppression".

Unless there is a governmental entity involved in the censorship decision, the First Amendment does not apply. The First Amendment only applies to censorship done by a federal, state or local governmental entity and does not apply to private parties such TV networks. This is basic constitutional law.
