Couple rescues kitten tossed from SUV on I-5

?pubId=41801895001

SALEM, Ore. (AP) — A 4-month-old kitten suffered a broken femur after it was dumped from a moving car onto the side of Interstate 5 in Salem.

The Statesman Journal reports that Good Samaritans known only as Betty and Roger told wildlife rescuer Tari Edmonds they were traveling toward Portland when they saw an SUV open its passenger-side window, dangle and then drop a small, fluffy object.

The couple thought it might be a scarf, but as they approached they saw it was a powder-gray kitten.

The couple thought to give chase to the SUV and get its license plate number, but decided to pull over and rescue the kitten, now named Edmond.

An online fundraising drive to pay for the kitten's surgery sought $900. As of Thursday, December 19, more than $1,260 had been pledged.

track that SUV down and have whomever threw that adorable kitten out, get a taste of their own medicine. Throw them from a fast moving car.

People who would do this would hurt a human in a heartbeat! They need to be found! Thank goodness for the kind people who stopped to help!

to throw an animal out of the window of a moving car. What a POS. They probably wouldn't hesitate to hurt another human being, either.

It could have been intentional. It could have been a three-year-old toddler who simply had no concept of the possible harm. I'm glad the kitty was rescued. I won't pass judgment on the SUV people without knowing what happened.

of a moving vehicle on a freeway ... and drop something -- anything -- out? Yeah, if that's the case, it's even worse, so ...sorry. Going to judge.

Long time ago. A whole litter dumped, and she, the only survivor, was brought to me at three weeks to bottle raise. She lived for nineteen years and was my younger son's patient, tolerant best friend from the time he could grab her.

Sometimes life takes remarkable turns, innit?

If this was indeed a deliberate act of such incredible cruelty, I hope they fucking die. The world has more than enough people in it. We don't need subhuman scum like that wasting oxygen.

“In fact, we raised more than enough, more than $1,000, and because of that, another cat, Iris, a little black kitten, will get a much-needed amputation of one of her front limbs where she has radial nerve paralysis,” Sloan said. “We couldn’t do the kind of work we do without the help of Willamette Valley Animal Hospital. They know our need never ends.”

Edmond will get his surgery today, and he also will be tested for feline AIDS and other diseases. He then will spend some time recovering in a healing kennel until he’s released by a veterinarian, which will probably be Dr. Laura Magruder, who’s scheduled for the shelter’s surgeries today. Magruder said the joint would have healed on its own, but without surgical intervention, the cat would suffer from chronic pain for life. The kitten will then be available for adoption.

Sloan said she’s frustrated by the growing number of people who are resorting to harming cats they no longer can care for.

“This community has a lot of options between us and the Willamette Humane Society rather than just dumping a cat. We’ve have three cats thrown from moving cars in the past two months. Just call us instead of doing this,” Sloan said, pointing to the regal little kitten sitting on his brisket, still slightly stunned from his brush with death. “I just don’t get it,” she said.

On October 31st. Some asshole threw a mother cat and five kittens from a pickup truck at freeway speed. A good Samaritan rescued two kittens but the mother and three kittens died before they could be rescued. The Humane Society offered a $7,500 dollar reward but no one has come forward. The two rescued kittens eventually died from feline distemper which may have been aggravated by the trauma they suffered. Here is a link to the news story which also has photos of the beautiful innocent things before they died.
