Sarah Palin Claims Free Speech Rights Are Under Attack

As many at DU probably already know Sarah Palin has criticized A&E for suspending Duck Dynasty cast member Phil Robertson over his anti-gay remarks. Palin has yet again claimed free speech is under attack. Although this is not the first time Palin has sounded the alarm about the supposed attack on free speech she does not raise the alarm for everyone. Palin did not raise the alarm when MSNBC host Martin Bashir was likely forced to resign after saying someone should crap in Palin's mouth. That remark came after she compared the aftermath of a possible United States debt default to slavery.

When Bashir took time away from his show and people wondered if Bashir would be suspended or fired, Palin did not provided a free speech defense for him. Not only did Palin remain silent about free speech rights during the Bashir incident it is possible she worked to get Bashir fired. Shortly after Bashir's comment Palin cancelled an appearance on NBC's Today Show. Some believed Palin cancelled in protest of Bashir's comment. It was also reported that Palin told the NBC leadership that she would not appear any NBC or MSNBC show until Bashir was fired. After Bashir announced his resignation Palin gladly accepted the resignation while at the same time attempting to play the victim. She claimed she hoped Bashir's attack on her would not prevent others from getting into politics, starting a business, or speaking up.

So, it seems Sarah Palin has a double standard when it comes to free speech. When she or someone she agrees with says something they are just expressing their free speech rights. However, when someone says something Palin disagrees with they should be fired, or forced to resign as soon as possible.

matters. Speech should be privatized. Corporations should decide what speech is and, by god, it shouldn't be free. I say we should be charged for every word that procede-th out of our mouths and then taxed to fix the national debt. People who speak freely should be thrown into FEMA camps and be forced to watch Alex Jones whipped with a wet tea bag by the Illuminati. Ted Nugent should be forced to marry Sarah Palin then both be forced to poop in each others pants!

Wait. I just spoke freely. Sorry 'bout that.

and she is quoted seconds thereafter, Free Speech is not under attack. It has surely been dumbed-down by Sarah, plain and stupid though.
