And I like them a lot. They're a thousand times better than the Team USA uniforms for the opening and closing ceremonies. Those are again being designed by Ralph Lauren, and again they look like some WASPy country club retro blecchhh. (At least they're made in the US this time). Those uniforms, unveiled today are here:

EDITED for finding out which uniforms these were!

Oh, wait - that's the corporate logo, more noticeable than any reference to the US, again.

Aside from that, they're not bad. Every Olympics Mr. Retro and I watch the opening ceremonies and award prizes in several categories, including uniform that most resembles an explosion in a paint factory, silliest costume, best headgear (the African countries have a lock on this in the summer games), best use of orange (always the Netherlands) and the coveted Worst and Best National Team Uniforms award.

The overall Best in All Shows Award is still held by the Albertville Olympic Committee for its Human Snowglobes.

where the team hangs out. Even borin business tycoons wear them.

Not fond of the Nike logo, but whatever.

Neon yellow accents, also very popular on the slopes.

And BTW, if you travel virtually naked at 100 miles an hour in the cold at altitude, sorry, your tech clothes are going to look Trek. it's the nature of the science.

Those uniforms look horrible. They look so plain. I would have liked something with a little more color and something a little more fun looking.

I would really like for an American company to design the clothing for the U.S. Olympic team. However, it seems like it may be time to let the Canadian design company Roots design the outfits once again. When they were doing the designs the outfits look hip, fun, and sporty.

Introduces:
Robbie the Robot, who went on to a a successful film and TV career.
The deceleration … machines … were stolen by Star Trek as transporters
Earthlings in flying saucers as in Lost in Space.

This film explored the danger of unfettered reliance on technology in the face of human - and alien - frailty.
It was truly a Sci Fi masterpiece.

By the way … I like the uniforms.

I gotta tell ya, from the male point of view...I'd hate those tight ones. Oh boy, would I be uncomfortable wearing that. I'd feel like people were staring at me. And at 6'4", 225 & covered in tattoos.. I got enough of that. So yea..they should get some athlete input on what they'd be comfortable with. IMO.

The bottoms seem to be in line with today's fashion. I wear those types of bottoms at the gym. And every woman I see seems to be wearing those, regardless of where their going. I heard a joke the other day of tv. "Why do all these women I see now look like they are coming or going from yoga class?" It made me laugh cause my wife is forever wearing them she loves em. All the athletes need now are those Ugg boots, lol.

Hate'em, but I'm probably a fogey. I don't like these channel down coats, but when I was in NYC this past weekend 75% of people were wearing them, so I'm not exactly mainstream on this. Don't like booties, either. Can't imagine parading around in the winter in a coat that doesn't cover my butt. Women do wear those yoga pants everywhere, so that's just the fashion. These uniforms seem like something young people would like, and that's who they are for.

Basically I'm from the '70's. Jeans and a wool coat. I have never liked athletic-wear. Didn't then, don't now. I do like those German uniforms though. Different and colorful. And the coats look warm.

Since to the media's eyes this meeting in Sochi is the Figure Skating World Championships (count the number of minutes they spend showing figure skaters lacing up skates, being handed roses, applying lipstick etc. and compare it to the number of seconds of biathlon that accidentally makes it on the air) why not just dress everyone in figure skating costumes?

Especially the fake laces and puffy stars:

Nike has apparently designed the sweaters for all the teams, and they all get the fake laces. Team Canada's sweaters have puffy maple leafs, rather than stars. They all look like soccer jerseys, rather than hockey sweaters. Yuk. Not too late to get rid of the puffy stars, and give it real laces...
