(12,882 posts)I have NEVER watched a minute of this cornball show. In fact, I've never watched ANY "reality" show since they came on the scene. ALL of them are pablum for the ignorant. Sound like this particular show should be titled Dunce Dynasty.

(31,484 posts)I've seen a couple of episodes just because I happened to be in the room where someone was watching them. I don't understand the appeal.

(27,985 posts)I was spending the weekend with my dog in a cheesy motel. (he lives 200 miles from me so we don't get many visits) I was flipping through the channels on tv, a vague novelty since I don't subscribe to tv in the real world. Anyway, I stopped on this weird hillbilly show and really couldn't figure out if it was a reality show or a comedy send up. Dog was asleep so I didn't wake him to ask. Now, I know I was watching a "reality show" called Duck Dynasty. Weird. I don't plan on watching anymore. It was very, very dumb.

(21,506 posts)Not that I don't agree about reality shows but how do you make a judgement with out ever watching one?
Plucketeer
(12,882 posts)..... I guess I should have said that I've never watched a complete episode, season or series. Good god! You don't have to watch but about 5 minutes of ANY of them to realize that the word "reality" has no relevance to the point of the show. NONE of the charlatans on those shows really and truly act the same as they would without a camera staring them in the face. THAT point alone can discharge the "Reality" BS. Does that explain it adequately?
Curmudgeoness
(18,219 posts)I have never watched a reality show, and somehow, I learn a hell of a lot about them just from seeing the ads for them or hearing about them in news stories. I don't even have cable tv, so could not have even seen an ad for Duck Dynasty, but I know more than I ever wanted to know....and that was before this dustup.

(17,505 posts)I don't think "Project Runway" is so bad. Yes, they edit for drama, and it's really a product placement bonanza, AND fashion is, like Oscar Wilde said '... a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months.' But the things these young folks DO...in a matter of hours! Even the 1st person eliminated usually came up with something unbelievable for the time allotted.
But yeah.... most "reality shows" are just boring. And if I want to watch people muddle thru their shallow personal problems, I'll just move back in with my parents.

(19,348 posts)So Phil Robertson has the constitutionally guaranteed right to have a television show produced by a private company?

(2,354 posts)better than the rest of us.
How they are not embarrassed by this is freaking mystery to me. I am seeing local people who are not that stupid, college educated, who are in the same boat of incorrectly thinking the 1 st amendment applies here. OTOH, maybe they are just that special kind of stupid...
Phil is nothing more than an actor with a contract. Baggers love capitalism, big business and this is nothing more than the straight out operation of their economic belief system...which means that no one is guaranteed a job. They ought to be first in line to be sucking this up, but instead they shocked, just shocked.
Apparently they were not aware that America is composed of lots of other people besides them, whose opinions now count just as much as theirs do.
AlbertCat
(17,505 posts)Like with the Bible... context and meaning mean nothing. It's all seen thru a lens of "Poor put upon me....me.... me... me"

Though I have to admit, there's some pretty hilarious humor coming out with it, and there is the added benefit of watching certain family members, co-workers and acquaintances make total asses of themselves expressing support for these jerks.

(15,214 posts)Another native Texan and I've been laughing at the idiots around me who can't help themselves and MUST direct almost any conversation to the "Duck Dynasty" guy so they can have an argument.
The only thing I would point out to Dusty's rant is that there are still some Christians (I count myself among them) who aren't like all of the others. I believe anyone has the right to live his/her life however they see fit and in a world full of hate and violence, I do not see how love between two consenting adults can ever be a bad thing. The right wingers can twist the bible any way they want to justify their hate, but in my opinion, that is not the intent of Christianity.

(22,441 posts)and he looks like he does now. But in the video he shows pictures of them dressing like "Yuppies"
Maybe just the Phil is real as far as his outfit is concerned and they got the sons and daughters and family to hick out for the show.
What pisses me off about these shows also is they have a very low budget so the makers are hauling off a lot of money for not much investment at all, and oftentimes to the detriment of some of the people on the show.

(1,305 posts)just how fast that shriveled-up, snipe-faced shrew with an
obvious personality disorder intruded herself into the picture --
both figuratively and literally. Shameless bitch can't pass up
any opportunity to promote her relevance, which is a
laughable farce at this point. She still has no comprehension
of the true intent of the Bill of Rights. And the faux redneck
can say whatever he damn well wants to say, but we don't
have to be forced to listen -- and A&E doesn't have to pay
him -- if we don't approve of his stupid hate speech. The
First Amendment does not protect any form of oppression,
but Sarah still thinks so. The First Amendment protects our
right to say whatever moronic BS we want, but it does not
guarantee protection from the consequences of those words,
such as slander and libel suits or being fired from your job.

(8 posts)I shared this post and with a slight dislclaimer that I am not necessarily pro gay or anti christian, however I really believe this fellow. However any pro christian or conservative friends i have on FB don't agree and are offended by the post. I realize as I have for quite some time now, that such obvious evidence that it is Bullshit does not matter one bit to right wing zealots or teapartiers. Evidence or facts are simply ignored and will never get this crowd to change thier minds on any subject. No need to argue with them over it. There is no converting them to logic. It means nothing to them.
