Actually he said worse than that. His full quote was in defense of his homeless policies. He said it was just the way God works.
Dear Mr. Bloomberg: I hate to tell you, but that kind of poverty is caused by man. It is caused by policies in countries where the very rich are so greedy that they try to get richer by taking from the needy. It is going on right now in our country, and it sounds like you are complicit.
This kid was dealt a bad hand. I dont know quite why. Thats just the way God works. Sometimes some of us are lucky and some of us are not, he said.
That is pure arrogance, hubris.

Bloomberg Defends Homeless Policies While Calling Dasani Story Extremely Atypical
After the New York Times published an emotional, five-part series on a homeless 11-year-old girl named Dasani growing up in the citys shelters, many New Yorkers reacted passionately. Among them was Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio, who called the status quo unacceptable and vowed last week to change the citys approach when he takes office next year.
Asked today if he was similarly moved by the story, current Mayor Michael Bloomberg told Politicker hed had a different reaction.
While calling her life story really quite extraordinary, Mr. Bloomberg insisted Dasanis situation was not representative of the citys broader homeless population.
.....Addressing Politicker directly, Mr. Bloomberg also took a direct shot at the media: I think one of the problems is a lot of journalists have never looked around the worldyour smirk shows you havent been outside the country and dont know what poverty means elsewheres.

(39,909 posts)and use it to justify the extreme Wealth Disparity,
and absolve themselves of any responsibility for the Suffering of The POOR.
It is GOD's will that they suffer,
and it is Gods WILL that we are WEALTHY.
And it gets worse.
Their WEALTH and POWER is a sign from GOD that they (and ONLY they) have been chosen to rule the WORLD.
This is some sick, SICK shit,
and not reserved for Republicans.
Centrist Democrats attend regular "Prayer Breakfasts" hosted by "The Family",
and Eat That Shit UP!
There is a good article on "C Street" and "The Family" in the New Yorker.
The entity behind C Street.

The "lucky" are raking in more dough all the time. By needlessly harming the poor and needy.

(3,411 posts)Calvinism said that it was gods will (at birth or before of someone) whether they would be the chosen ones and thus would be blessed with prosperity, or damned and suffer as a result, and no one can help them because it's Gods will (and thus it's Gods will for people to be poor because they are already destined for damnation and all events are willed by God.)

(88,117 posts)She's a lovely girl with so many hopes and dreams. I taught some like that. They were so special, I probably treated them as such; I think it showed. I think other students treated them that way because I did, so I don't regret it. When I look back I would give them my phone number when they had unusual problems going on. Not once did any ever misuse it. They needed someone to talk to, someone to care.

(2,354 posts)who care..thanks for the hope you gave to the ones who needed it. It can be a heartless and uncaring world and it is nice to be reminded that some people do their best to try to make a difference.
Instead of making excuses, like Bloomberg.
