No one's religion gives him the right to say hateful things about other people

Daily I give thanks that I have no religion.
What's more there is no white man who can tell people of African origin who were captured and enslaves, torn apart from their families that we were happier before we had civll rights.

The fucking nerve of these people.

Fuck that duckass. The only dynasty is that racist one - and add the homophobic one as well.

from now until the 2016 election. Let citizens know this is what the GOP stands for. It's a war and why not use the gift ammunition we have.

All it takes is to be a member of the wrong group, or not be a member of "their" group.
It doesn't take much to see the loathing and scorn in some people's posts, when responding to "other".
Aren't we are all supposed to be more or less, on the same side here?

There's no shortage of hateful speech on DU.

I'm okay with that, I think. People can say whatever hateful thing they want, really. In some cases because there are things that deserve to be hated. More commonly, though, ensuring that people are able to say hateful things keeps spite and stupidity out in the open. And I'm usually more troubled by censorship than hate speech, to be honest...

I've been called a Libertarian, Republican and other choice swear words. Which is kinda hard to believe, because I am over there by Gandhi on the political charts. I'm thinking their hate (over used word around here) is clouding their thinking. Some people think they are Democrats because they campaigned for Hillary or Obama. Or voted for them.

But you are correct in your post, though.

You can say what you want, but that doesn't mean there won't be consequences. Whether it's a reprimand from someone who's not an ignoramus, or getting fired from your job, or getting a fist in the teeth. Censorship is terrible, and I also pretty much guarantee that in today's political climate, the people getting shut up wouldn't be the bigoted hate-spewers--it would be the anti-establishment hippy progressives like yours truly.

just as they have the right to express themselves I have the right to express my reaction and impose consequences (if I so choose, withhold money, patronage ... or whatever)

I didn't watch prior to his hateful ignorant comments and I wont watch now ... he can say whatever he wants as can I ... I am ever mindful that there are consequences associated with my words and actions (admittedly, the things that come out of his mouth would never even cross my mind, much less my lips)

that their religion gives them every reason and right to hate, and every reason and right to express their hate freely, in an attempt to injure innocent others who are different from them.

They also believe that their hatred, and expressions of hatred, are noble and justified, and should be immune from criticism.

They are, in reality, just a group of sad, ignorant, conservative, hate driven people, who believe in lies so that they can feel better about themselves, and find some false certainty in an uncertain world.

They live a confused, unhappy life, in the midst of a conscience crushing, powerful delusion of false righteousness.

Dick Cheney exists.

Dick Cheney is a Dick.

I say hateful things about Dick Cheney.

What gives me that right?

The fact that Dick Cheney exists gives me that right.

Even if Dick Cheney did not exist, I could say hateful things about an imaginary person who has the same traits that "real" Dick Cheney possesses.

I will not have you try to take that right away from me.

I wish to continue to hate on Dick Cheney.

As for the Duck idiots- they crap wasn't selling in the stores this Christmas and they needed to invent something to get some free PR and boost sales.

It's disgusting they use bigotry to market so blatantly.

TV networks aren't the government.

So, while a bigot is free to express his bigotry without fear of reprisal or sanction from the government, he does not enjoy the same right when it comes to what his employer chooses to do.

Whether a person believes their religion or the First Amendment gives them the right to freely express their bigotry, that doesn't excuse their bigotry from being received negatively in the public square, nor in there being real consequences for their expressing their bigotry.

People have the right to express their views. There is no expectation that the rest of us have to believe their views have any validity. That's true if the subject is religion, politics or what have you.

like you, I have no religion, is that all the so-called "holy" books of all Western religions say the same things as the one that Phil Robertson is paraphrasing.

Should I be angrier with him for saying what that book contains than I am at that book for containing it?

Bigotry is unacceptable, regardless of the reasons for the bigotry. I'm so fucking sick and tired of hearing religious belief used as a justification for bigotry.

If your religion is teaching you bigotry, it's time to dump your religion.
