NAHA (Kyodo) -- Four China Coast Guard vessels intruded into Japanese territorial waters around the Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea for about two hours on Sunday, the Japan Coast Guard said.
The Chinese vessels left the waters from south-southwest of Uotsuri Island in the Senkaku group after entering from northwest of the island around 11:30 a.m., marking the first intrusion since Dec. 8.
It was the 73rd day on which China has sent government vessels into Japanese waters since the Japanese government's purchase in September last year of three of the five main islands in the uninhabited group from a private Japanese owner.
The Senkaku group is administered by Japan but claimed by China and Taiwan, which call the islands Diaoyu and Tiaoyutai, respectively.
