An interesting thing I just heard on "Law & Order: SVU":

Captain Cragen said, "We work for the prosecution." I wonder how many real cops think that way?

for leads on any sort of a criminal case. At that point they do work for the prosecution even when they don't know who will be prosecuted for the crime.
