What is productive about playing into a reality TV publicity stunt?

As a snooty coastal elitist who cancelled his satellite TV years ago and is presently amusing himself re-watching Sharpe's Rifles... I had never heard of "Duck Dynasty", indeed walking through an airport a few days ago seeing that camouflaged neanderthal on every screen I assumed he was the suspect in a mass shooting or right-wing terrorist plot.

So I ask, what the hell is productive about pulling this loser out of cable TV obscurity and placing him and his "message" in-front of the whole country?

After his "suspension" his ratings will probably be through the roof as conservatives circle the wagons and the indifferent but curious tune in to see what the fuss is all about. A cost-benefit analysis would probably find his little outburst to be a wise decision.

Why make national news out of every racist, sexist or homophobic outburst? Especially when the source of the said outburst has a financial incentive to draw as much attention, positive or negative to themselves?

than I am. The more controversial remarks they make the more popularity they have with
the right wingers. Look at Sarah Palin and Ann Colter they get away with all their bullshit and
Martin Bashire has to quit his job for telling the truth about Palin.

This is not a situation in which Mr. Robertson was caught in a candid or private moment making these comments. They were made as part of an interview to be published in a well-known magazine. He knew exactly what he was saying and what would ensue as a reaction.
