Girl rejected by boy she never actually met takes revenge

TOKYO —

After having her advances spurned, a female junior high school student decided to get back at the young man she had hoped to form a friendship with. Assembling a violent mob of 20 girls, she went out for payback – and the worst part is, she and the boy had never actually met in person.

The incident began as the two were using LINE, a smartphone application that allows users to exchange messages with friends and make free data calls. The app has become a very popular form of communication in Japan and South Korea especially, where users can quickly and easily add acquaintances.

In September this year, a 14-year-old female student in Tokyo sent a contact request to a male student via the application, but it was quickly rejected by boy, who is a year older. With her pride dented, the girl was determined to make the boy pay for his sins, even though he had no reason to accept the friend request to begin with. The female student gathered a group of about 20 girls to help her seek revenge.

The LINE-using boy was hanging out in a local park with 12 other male classmates when the angry female mob surrounded them. Within moments, things turned violent.

Seeing as she's only 14,she should be punished age-appropriately (school suspension, community service) and her parents should take away her electronic gadgets, and get her professional help. She needs it.

Are you KIDDING me?

She doesn't need "help"!. WTF does she need help for? She's just a nasty little monster. What she needs is to get over herself.

"Ohhhh, darling.... you ASSAULTED SOMEONE. Are you feeling OK? Listen up, everyone, this poor young lady needs HELP. Let us all sit down and discuss the matter. Are your feelings wounded, little one?"

Blech.

How about the totally innocent guy she assaulted?

I advocated age-appropriate punishment in addition to family punishment as well as psychiatric help. You are clearly misrepresenting what I wrote.

you'd demand that the boys go to jail for years and be labeled as "sex offenders" for life.

I think the custom of sending minors to jail is wrong. If you're a minor, you shouldn't go to regular jail, and not be sent to juvenile jail unless you have done a really serious crime, such as permanent injury or murder - regardless of gender.

"He didn't accept my friend request"?

The article describes the girls as "rambunctious". Isn't that cute?

I also find the apparent absence of any retaliation to be an interesting part of the story.

"onna Bushi" ... which did crack me up, sorry. Its not funny, but I know the context of those words. It goes back to the time of Edo (What Tokyo used to be called) and if there was an invasion by a group of Samurai on a house, it was the women, trained to protect the house with her martial arts skills or simply commit seppuku with a tanto (large knife).

Tanto

Yes..for those who wondered, I own a Tanto and know how to use it!
