the "sale" is often not actually legit.
Oddly enough, when any jack-ass can click a button on a website claiming that he intends to pay a million dollars for some weird thing mentioned on the news it often turns out that the bidder does not have a million dollars.
Whoa! Who could have seen that coming?
footnote: This behavior is not limited to eBay. A while back the world record price for a painting was set by the "sale" of Van Gogh's Irises for some (then) amazing figure. It was in all the news. But the bidder never paid for the painting. The Getty museum quietly came to the rescue, buying the thing from the auction house for a price that was quite large, but way less than the epic, amazing, newsworthy auction "sale."

(2,673 posts)It is not a sale until the money is there and I wonder if GZ will ever see any money from his fake painting?
