A Different Kind of Christmas Story

A very nice story by my friend about his wife. I think you should check this out and read the whole thing, not just this excerpt. She is an inspiration.

When you think about what garners attention in our society today; the racist and homophobic remarks of the Duck Dynasty idiot, a family of narcissistic self-centered twits dancing around in their “Christmas Jammies”, Miley Cyrus wagging her tongue (and other body parts) or what Beyonce did down at the local Wal-Mart to promote herself, they all pale in comparison to the value or significance of this story. But somehow those are the things that go “viral”. Things that actually make a difference in people’s lives go unrecognized and under appreciated. I know there are plenty of people out there working hard to help others, but there’s only one of them that I’m married to. This is my site, so its my prerogative to tell you about her. I’ll probably get some grief from Jacki for writing this essay but somebody needs to know about what she’s doing other than me and this is a great time of the year to share her story. She thinks its no big deal. I know better.

people I've known for a long time. It's absolutely true that our country's values are so screwed up.

It’s way past time to redefine who the important people in our society are. Trust me, Sara Palin, the Real Housewives of New Jersey, and whoever is on American Idol this week do not belong on that list. I know someone who does belong.

I agree!

Not the Duck Dynasty guy or Sara Palin-they add nothing to society-zero!

Most importantly, she has built a support system for the members of our community who are struggling just to get by in a place where those kinds of difficulties are all too often overlooked and has made people on the fringe feel welcome. No questions asked, no green card check, no income verification, if you need help, you get help.

You need help-you get help-No questions.

What a concept!

I had somebody help me with "no questions asked". I can't tell you how much that meant to me when I felt embarrassed to find myself looking for options. Its important that there are people like this around. I've only been comnig here to Democratic Underground a short time, but I've got to believe that if yoiu made the title of the post "Sarah Palin Eats Worms" or something like that you would have gotten a lot more views.

Yeah, I guess this just isn't all that interesting a subject. That's kind of the point of the whole story. What we choose to pay attention to is all out of whack.

He didn't write about the time one of the local tea baggers called his house drunk demanding to know why he was spending money and resources to feed the illegal immigrants in town. He told them "because they're hungry". The guy just said Oh and hung up!

It's nice to hear there are people who not only work with others during December, but the rest of the year as well.

To quote the article: " Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Happy Festivus, Happy Holidays – whatever makes you happy!"
