General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWhich news stories are the Corporate media currently UNDER-REPORTING?
There are 2 big issues that the corporate media
seems to be avoiding like the plague:
1. Fukushima---How's that critical "rod-recovery" thingy going?
Personally, from US Media sources, I wouldn't know.
and
2. Iceland--Is it turning out that the "Populist Solution" to
the ravages of the Big Bankster$ is going just a tad too well
to be reported by corporate sources here in the Free 'Ole US of A?
I ask my fellow DUers for 2 things:
1. Suggestions for better/more current sources on these 2 issues
and
2. OTHER issues you feel are being intentionally stiffed by US Korporate Media.
Thank you.

(21,646 posts)It is the deadliest Philippine typhoon on record,[1] killing at least 6,109 people in that country alone.[2]
Other countries were hit
Haiyan is also the strongest storm recorded at landfall, and unofficially the strongest typhoon ever recorded in terms of wind speed.[3]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Typhoon_Haiyan
It is an under covered example of climate change
Both political leaders and climatologists have connected the typhoon to climate change and have international attention but in US
not so much was given to the intensity and what is could signify

(3,284 posts)If, God forbid, during the transfer process, they dropped one of
those fuel rods in Fukushima and it blew up.
How long would it take for us to hear about it?

(21,786 posts)That's the biggest story not being reported by the media. (96% of news stories on the three major networks on "extreme weather" make no mention of climate change.)
Iceland is a non-story because Iceland has 300K people. Fukushima is likewise a non-story because fuel rod removal hasn't failed spectacularly.
The most recent news about Iceland I've seen involved four executives from the Kaupthing Bank being sentenced to prison for their role in illegally lending a Qatari sheikh the money he then used to buy shares in the bank.
