What's on your Christmas menu?

I love to cook and bake. Here's what's on the agenda for the B2G family...what about you?

Breakfast:

Scrambled eggs with cheese
Sausage links
Homemade pecan/cinnamon rolls (will make these tonight so they rise overnight)

Xmas Dinner:

Standing rib roast with au jus & horseradish sauce
Twice baked potatos
Green beans with toasted almonds
Fresh baked bread
White chocolate hazelnut cheesecake with raspberry sauce.

Yeah Christmas!

Seriously, steak for Christmas Eve. That's a tradition that goes back more than 50 years, as my single mom couldn't afford it the rest of the year, so we had it on Christmas Eve as a special occasion. I honor her by continuing that today.

Ham on Christmas Day. When I was a kid, we had our Swedish Christmas, but I'll be damned if I ever have to eat lutefisk again.

Organically raised. Brined and roasted. Mashed spuds. My mushroom/sherry stuffing. Wavy Gravy. Something of a greenish nature (not cooked by me). Apple Crumble Pudding with Grand Marinier custard sauce. A Rose Cremant to wash it down. Some foo-foo's to start with.

For dinner:

Roast duck with cherry sauce
Roasted white potatoes, brushed with the duck fat so they'll be crispy on the outside. The cherry sauce is great on these.
Petite peas
Homemade rolls

Dessert is mince pie with custard.

It was
roasted pork belly with crackling,
boiled potatoes,
sauerkraut,
mushy peas,
and gravy

followed by
chocolate pudding with whipped cream for us 'kids' and
cloudberry cream with krumkake for the adults.

Tomorrow we'll do the traditional West Coast Christmas dinner:
Ribs of mutton,
Boiled potatoes
Mashed swedes
Fat from the steamed mutton

Rice cream porridge
Caramel pudding.

Yup, we're Scandinavians.

Will take sliced apples and cheese mid-day.

Dinner will be turkey with fixings. I have no idea what the fixings are, because I will be eating at my son's, and he's doing the cooking. There will be turkey and some kind of cranberry sauce, potatoes and vegetables, spinach salad, and some kind of pie....no, I don't know what.

There will be presents and conversation and wine and coffee, and I will enjoy myself.

Dec 2013

Well it is already Christmas here since I am +9 UTC, so breakfast was cereal and an apple like any other day.

Lunch: It will be pretty much the same, either ham or turkey on a bagel and Synder's of Hanover pretzels (probably turkey today).

Dinner: Turkey breast, mashed potatoes and gravy, mixed vegetables.

My 2.6 kg turkey breast was $40. Yes, about $15 a kg (or about $7 a lb.)

For obvious reasons I only make it about twice a year so Christmas is it.

Fried Chicken
Mashed potatoes & gravy
Relish tray
Veggies (not sure what yet)
Homemade French rolls
Homemade peach pie for desert (I canned the peaches myself this summer)

Breakfast will be whatever we scrounge or whatever my husband decides to cook 'cause I'm not cookin' it.

I love cooking! This is my time to shine, and also the boys are coming for dinner.
Sweet potato casserole from my own sweet potatoes (they grow like weed here in Florida)
Turkey, of course, but it is brining right now in a tub (sugar, salt, vinegar, and spices). If you brine a turkey it will be ummm umm.

for dinner and also breakfast, Belgian waffles, blueberries and whipped cream.

Dinner is herb-crusted prime rib, roasted winter vegetables, steamed baby potatoes (white, red and purple), spinach salad, and homemade sourdough dinner rolls. Apple pie for dessert.

I make a killer cranberry horseradish sauce for the prime rib.
