Ad targets Republicans over 1.3 million Americans on the brink of losing unemployment aid
by Laura Clawson
Just days after Christmas, 1.3 million Americans will lose their emergency unemployment benefits thanks to Congress leaving the jobless aid for long-term unemployed people out of its budget deal. Republicans refused to included unemployment in the budget even though the long-term unemployment rate is double what it has been historically when federal emergency benefits were allowed to lapse.
Americans United for Change is running the ad above on national cable on December 26 and 27 to remind congressional Republicans that this fight isn't over; when they get back from recess, it will be past time to extend unemployment insurance.
