Well, it looks like my first premium is set to come out on Jan 1, 2014.
Which, unless a miracle happens, means it will bounce.
I am hoping they have a grace period of a few days. If not - if someone is cancelled because of non-payment of premiums, will they be able to refresh or re-enroll? Or wait until next year?
Also, if I do end up getting my hours cut, I will be eligible for Medicaid. Would I be able to sign up for that right away if my income is low enough?

(14,449 posts)I don't think that you will be cut completely, but you will have to pay it pretty quickly. You can only change policies during the open season which begins again in October 2014 so that is the longest you would have to stay in your current insurance. With the cut in hours, January 2015 should be a decrease in premiums for you.

I did not see anything about Michigan on there.

(450 posts)You have a 90 day grace period before you lose your insurance. If you don't pay the months you use the private insurance company will send it to collections and place it on your credit report. If you can't pay then unenroll by calling the private health insurance company. Once your enrolled they handle everything. Government just handles any tax credits you may receive.

It's for my husband who has Molina Healthcare through the exchange.
I get my health/dental/vision package insurance from my daughter's work. I will be joining the law firm where she works on January 27, 2014 as an administrative assistant under my daughter who is the PR Marketing Director of the law firm.

(22,308 posts)Just FYI. I am dropping Blue Care Network (of Michigan) and switching to Total Health as of 1/1/14. I called Total Health Care and they helped me through setting up my first payment.
As I understand it, the deadline has been extended until Jan. 10th for making your first payment.
As for Medicaid, I would hope that you will be eligible but you need to convince the powers that be of that. If I were you, I would contact a health care navigator. My personal experience with contacting one was/is extremely positive.
Good luck to you.
