By actual count, in 2013 I got 8,217 emails from Democratic/liberal candidates and organizations ...

... asking me to donate money.

Not one of them, not even one, promised to fight for what I consider the most basic of Democratic/liberal values ....

... Medicare for All

... Lifting the cap on Social Security, or applying FICA tax to anything besides payroll

... Living wage (no, $10 an hour is not a living wage)

... Higher taxes on capital gains and other high earners

... Reducing military spending

... Reining in the NSA

Of course there's still a few hours to go. Perhaps later today.

And we wonder why half the electorate doesn't bother to vote.

Here's one of the latest that I got, they don't mention ANY issue. They sorta take for granted that I support the Democratic Party with cash, and will continue to do so - if prodded and cajoled and maybe even flattered a little (our TOP supporters? Really? little old moi?) "I know that you do a lot for Democrats and the progressive cause" (Aw, shucks, ain't it the truth, ain't it the truth)

Hi Thomas,

Today we're contacting all of our top supporters ahead of tomorrow's year-end fundraising deadline. I know that you do a lot for Democrats and the progressive cause, and I want to say THANK YOU. But Thomas, we could really use your help again before the clock strikes midnight tomorrow:

Supporter Record: redacted
Supporter Since: July 2013 (odd I am not sure who I donated to then, and I have earlier donations to some candidates, starting with Tammy Baldwin in 2002)
2013 Support Status: pending
Suggested Donation: $5 (contribute)

Tomorrow's deadline is the biggest of the entire year. Meeting our goals now is what lets us expand the map next year and invest in strong Democratic legislative candidates who'll urgently need our support. Your donation by midnight tomorrow could be decisive.

Please use this personalized link to automatically renew your support for 2013 - all gifts received by tomorrow night will count towards this crucial year-end deadline.

Our supporters' average online contribution in 2013 is just $29.32. But together, those contributions add up and enable us to counter the millions of dollars right-wing organizations pour into the closest campaigns. Please click here to renew your support for 2013: http://www.dlcc.org/FinalDeadline?Supporter=16688014

Thank you for being a Democratic supporter,

Megan Hannigan
Finance Director
The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee

I think that once you sign a petition on the internet your name and info is sold and passed around.

and those $3 emails from the DNC are annoying as hell.

I'll vote for the candidate, but I'll use my money to support my family... and grassroots campaigns.

Not anymore. I've blocked or unsubscribed from most of them. Only a few a month get through now.

Haven't seen an email or snail mail from the DLC since the early part of the millennium. Of course they don't exist anymore, but it was a pleasure to not hear from them while they were around.

I used to ridicule without mercy Co-workers who voted Republican for voting against their own Economic Interests.
Now, I feel that what passes for the Democratic Party today is asking me to do the same.

I guess my Momma was right.
She told me to never laugh at an unfortunate,
because someday The Fates would make me stand in their shoes.
