Six Things Straight People Should Stop Saying about Gay People

http://canyonwalkerconnections.com/six-things-straight-people-should-stop-saying-about-gay-people/

A kind woman, who would never intentionally offend another person, writes: “I love gay people, I just cannot support their gay lifestyle.”

A pastor stands holding an electric cord as a prop and warns the congregation, “Don’t mess with God’s original design. Gay sex is not natural, the parts don’t fit.”

A man thinks he needs to “protect” his family from his Christian gay brother. He says to his brother, “Homosexuality is a perversion and, until you change, I cannot allow you in my home with my children.”

Parents send their lesbian daughter to a program that they heard about at church. The visiting speaker says he is no longer gay. The encouraged parents say, “We want what is best for our daughter and we know she can change her preferences.”

About their fellow Americans, some will say: “I don’t mind gay people having civil unions, I just do not want to redefine marriage. Marriage is not a civil right and they want special rights.”

Thinking they are pleasing and even defending God, moderate Christians assert: “I’m fine with gay people getting together, it’s God and the Bible that are clearly against homosexuality. We love gay people and need to tell them the truth.”

The follow-up to the “gay lifestyle” comment is often, “Gay sex is not natural, the parts don’t fit.” If the parts “did not fit”, then gay people would not be having “gay sex”; so clearly, the parts do fit.

Warning. warning

That should make some homophobe heads explode.

Good read, thanks.

It's so dishonest to smear the entire world to excuse some bigoted idiots all of whom live in our mutual culture, have Google and can read.
Plus, when you posted on DU that gay people have all rights but one and you were instructed, you got huffy and offended, just from being told that 29 States have full tilt legal discrimination against us.
To refresh the collective memory:
"There there is only one right you do not have. And people who give no credit to Obama for what he did already while making as if it is the only issue that matters are just wrong. There's always going to be some new demand..."

In fact, why would you make that post, who would think that? It's illogical. What about the middle of the road type people who just say it but would be amenable to persuasion? You have the choice of explaining and maybe they back off or immediately yelling homophobe and they dig in their heals. Human nature and all that.

I have known people who have softened on that and many other subjects.

You seem to be saying people are either/or and there is no way to change them. Rather hopeless, and obviously untrue or why do we have gay marriage in 18 states? Someone must have come round.

Ignorant means not knowing. People learn new things every day. What advantage is your hard line view? How would any progress be made at all if you refuse to even give them a chance to change their minds? And you're claiming to be from the underdog group, so you're expecting to stay there forever, with nothing to do but call them bigots, about which they don't care.

I see almost a preference for rage, here. It's better to hate them for their bigotry than to ever talk to them or hope they will soften or change their minds.

They hear them on the news or in conversation and don't think much about it. You could open a dialogue and get some traction rather than just condemning them as the worst type of homophobe right then and there. It's almost like some want to create or cement more homophobes in order to maintain victim status.

People who read the article might get it, but not everyone will read the article.

Stop the "lifestyle choice" assumption & the obsession with gay sex and you stop almost all of the objections.

The "biblical objections" can be dealt with by asking people to observe all of Leviticus or none of it or explain how they know more than their God and get to pick and choose. Further, Jesus said nothing against or about homosexuality.

Anti-gay people seem to spend more time thinking about gay sex than gay people. Most gay people when thinking about gay relationships are thinking about balance of chores, romantic dinners, living wills for emergencies, survivor benefits, Ikea furniture, whether to stop renting and buy a house together, what's for dinner, does my lover like my shirt, can I walk home or should I take a taxi to avoid a beating, etc.

Gay people choose to be gay no less and no more than heteros choose to be hetero.

A crime is committed against a gay person/establishment and along comes the "thoughtful" straight person who declares, "It was probably a closet case! Latent homosexual." Guess what? While there are certainly "closet cases" who do shitty things to other gay people, most of the time, it is heterosexual BIGOTS who do the harm! By no means should anyone be 'let off' because of his/her sexual orientation (notice: orientation not preference), but in reality, the ones who are committing the homophobic crimes aren't gays.

Why does it always come down to sex? I'm a lesbian that hasn't had sex in a while (TMI, I know) but that doesn't make me any less of a lesbian. Just like straight people who go through a dry spell, that doesn't make them any less heterosexual. And when I'm old and have no interest in sex? I'm still gonna be a lesbian.
