9/11 Families 'Ecstatic' They Can Finally Sue Saudi Arabia

By AARON KATERSKY (@aaronkatersky) and RUSSELL GOLDMAN (@GoldmanRussell) at ABC News

"SNIP....................................

Families of the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks today celebrated a federal court's ruling that allows relatives of people who died in the 9/11 terror attacks to sue Saudi Arabia.

Most of the hijackers who attacked the World Trade Center and the Pentagon in 2001 were from Saudi Arabia, and the complaint states that much of the funding for the al-Qaeda terrorists came from Saudi Arabia.

An attempt to Saudi Arabia in 2002 was blocked by a federal court ruling that said the kingdom had sovereign immunity. That ruling was reversed Thursday by a three-judge federal panel.

"I'm ecstatic.... For 12 years we've been fighting to expose the people who financed those bastards," said William Doyle, the father of Joseph Doyle, 25, a Cantor-Fitzgerald employee who was killed in the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

to be very afraid of anyone taking part in such terrorism again. Part of me wonders if the bad relations between the USA and the Saudis right now isn't because more information is coming out that some high level Saudis participated in 9/11.

Sheesh, I missed the previous ruling of "no standing" due to sovereign immunity.. wow. incredible. corrupted justices or what!

Good on them for sticking it out for the long haul and finally getting to this outcome. That's just step one. Now for the onslaught of various motions to dismiss, or block evidence to fight and overcome.

More Power to these families! And the let the sunlight in. Oh, gee wonder when and if M$M will take notice and give it the attention it deserves?

Not holding my breath.

We will pay it not the Saudis.
Our government will do anything to keep what really happened secret.
We as in our government, will not alienate the Saudi royal family.

They won't pay a dime , if there is a monetary judgment
it will come from us and we will be lead to believe the Saudi Royal family paid it

Republicons - Ya really gotta wonder...

According to the Washington Post, the Carlyle Group met at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in NYC one day before 9/11. In attendance at this meeting were former president George H. W. Bush and Shafiq bin Laden, the brother of Osama:

The Carlyle Group is a large private-equity investment firm, closely associated with officials of the Bush and Reagan administrations, and has considerable ties to Saudi oil money, including ties to the bin Laden family.

This morning [September 10, 2001] it is holding its annual investor conference at the Ritz Carlton hotel in Washington, DC. Among the guests of honor is investor Shafig bin Laden, brother of Osama bin Laden. [Observer, 6/16/2002; London Times, 5/8/2003] Former President George H. W. Bush, who makes speeches on behalf of the Carlyle Group and is also senior adviser to its Asian Partners fund [Wall Street Journal, 9/27/2001] , attended the conference the previous day, but is not there today (see (8:00 a.m.) September 11, 2001). Seems to me this would be the best and most healing way to make good use of all that Saudi oil money. Don't send the ever-expanding and quite dubiously-sourced royal family to the front rows at the Paris fashion shows. Use it to compensate the families of the 9/11 victims - who died from a terrorist act that the Saudis bankrolled and in which 15 of them participated directly.

Those families shouldn't have to be made to suffer all over again.
