Chinese Wal-Mart allegedly tries to pass off fox flesh as donkey meat

http://www.salon.com/2013/12/23/chinese_wal_mart_tries_to_pass_off_fox_flesh_as_donkey_meat/

Donkey meat is considered a delicacy. Fox meat is not.

An irate customer is trying to get a Wal-Mart in Jinan City, Shandong Province to compensate him to the tune of 1,600 packages of donkey meat after tests confirmed that it contained fox flesh, the Shanghai Daily reports.

The man claims he identified the mislabeling after noticing that the meat “tasted strange.” The Wal-mart suspects an extortion attempt — the 1,600 packages is a lot of meat for one person, after all, even if it is a regional delicacy. The donkey meat producer is also denying any wrongdoing.

What a coincidence that this barbaric scam happened at Walmart!!

though I was closer to Shanghai. There were two Wal-Marts in the town I lived in. One looked like something that fell out of a dumpster (I kid you not). The other one was quite a bit nicer. Neither sold much that I cared for. There is a German grocery chain (can't remember the name off hand) that has stores in China that are much nicer and have a better selection than Wal-Mart. Sadly Costco is not in China. Glad we have them here in Korea.

Fox are farmed for their hides, just like mink. A fur farmer must have made a few deals with local shop owners to make some extra money once his animals were dead and skinned.
