It was set to expire at 10pm. Now it's been moved to 4am. Not good news. I am hoping the powers at work are smart and either delay the office opening or stay closed, for the safety of their employees. However, I am not optimistic. Won't make any difference if I can't get out of the subdivision. I'll just have to extend my Holiday break and take a "personal" day.
I am so glad I have finally reached the point, in my life, where I'm putting my own well being above being the kind of employee who showed up for work, no matter what.

(26,177 posts)I'm wondering if it was extended because there is much more snow on the way, than anticipated, or if they are hoping it will keep people off of the roads so they can get them cleared.

(28,394 posts)Your weather is coming here (PA) tomorrow. We have had a beautiful weekend, but that is all about to change. Stay safe and warm!

(26,177 posts)Right now it's just snow, and not all that cold (30). But temperatures are supposed to plummet to 10, tonight and -9 by tomorrow night. I don't even want to guess what the wind chill will be. Hopefully I won't have to find out. We won't be back to seasonal until Thursday. That's a LONG way off, in this kind of weather.

(22,871 posts)raised their total accumulation forecast to 8 to 12 inches with expectations that snow will fall at 1 to 2 inches an hour.

(26,177 posts)The snow is coming down heavier, again. I'm hoping they send out a text, from work, this afternoon or tonight, letting us know what the office status will be for tomorrow, instead of waiting until the last minute. If I put in for personal time, now, I'll have to deduct it from my accrued time. If they delay the opening or don't open, I will cost me fewer hours, if any.

(34,169 posts)I've worked there for over 30 years & that's NEVER happened before. They're either the last one to close or opens when everyone else shuts down. They're predicting 8-12" of snow & near blizzard conditions once the cold air starts flowing in later tonight. Yeesh. At least I can take my time digging out tomorrow. Stay safe no matter what your employer does. I'm still in shock--I can't believe Grand Valley was the first school to close.

(26,177 posts)They are asking people to stay off of them. Most of my commute is side roads, my subdivision roads are a nightmare, and I'm down hill from every exit. Cars have been spinning wheels all afternoon, and getting nowhere.
I've already made the decision that no matter what my company decides, I'm not risking me or my car. I've got plenty of time off banked and haven't taken a personal day in decades. Any work that has piled up over the holiday break can wait for another day.

(34,169 posts)this storm, at least in our area. It went from us getting 2" of snow to +12". Whoops. Stay safe. How are you feeling?

(26,177 posts)I just talked with my brother, and he's not going in to his job tomorrow, either.
I know I'm recovering because I had a glass of Shiraz, and it tasted good. When I tried some the other day, I thought it was a bad bottle. Nope - just my taste buds were still affected. Thanks for asking!
I'm actually kind of digging a weather emergency during which I have electricity! I'm saving the fireplace for tomorrow, when the temps are supposed to be brutal.

(34,169 posts)extended the Winter Storm Warning for our county. It was supposed to expire at 1:00 am tomorrow & now it's in effect until 8:00 pm. This is turning into The Storm That Wouldn't Leave.

(26,177 posts)But they've raised the totals to 10 to 18". At the rate it's coming down, now, I can believe 18 inches.
The wind chill warning is 7am Monday through 1am Wednesday.
Thursday can't get here fast enough, for me.

(34,169 posts)the winds start. Oh, joy. Gack--18 inches?!? They're still saying only 8-12" for us.

(26,177 posts)I think more snow fell in the last couple of hours, than fell over night. There must be at least 1' on the ground, by now. Someone said this is one of the top 10 worst storms to hit Michigan. I can believe it.

(25,485 posts)on top of that a tractor trailer jack knifed in the weather...cutting off access to any major roads ..we were stranded out there for over 8 hours before anyone could get to us...please do not risk your life trying to go to work, it is not worth it..

(26,177 posts)I intend to get through those months with the least stress as possible. And that includes NOT risking myself or my cherished Saturn, driving in this kind of hellish weather. Both of us are nearly irreplaceable.

(22,165 posts)I seriously would love to see this as an OP.
I, like so many others (idiotically) will try to make it to work in terrible weather. If asked I would NOT say that getting to work on a particular day is worth risking my life ... Your post is a sobering reminder that that is exactly what I am doing!

(26,177 posts)It has been almost 3 weeks of bad, bad weather. I was without power for 6 days but at least, so far, I'm still electrified.
They are now predicting close to 20 inches could be on the ground, by tomorrow morning.

(12,693 posts)Supposed to be in the 40's throughout the night, 50s tomorrow--with rain, and then plummeting to single digits by sundown. We are going to try to be at the airport hotel before that happens and hopefully our flight will be somewhere close to on time Tuesday.
But since this is a work trip I can end up collecting double time for sitting in an airport, so that's a pretty good deal.
