Pope Francis: Pedophile Priests Are Monsters
Pope Francis wasted no time kicking off the New Year by labeling priestly pedophiles as little monsters according to a just released report of a meeting held in November.
Sex abuse scandals have plagued the Catholic Church for decades (centuries?) and the lack of action on the part of church officials has been a source of anger across the world. Rather than immediately handing known pedophiles over to the police, the little monsters were simply shuffled off to a new city or even country. There, they would continue to abuse children. It has been suggested that one of the reasons the Catholic Church has so many degenerates in it is because it shields, even enables, predators.
Because of this, the reputation of the Church has been seriously damaged over the years and the Pope has taken great strides to repair it. Pope Francis has already shaken the comfortable world of the religious right by openly condemning the pursuit of wealth and the harassment of homosexuals. Hes also taken on financial corruption. If he is serious about fixing the Churchs sexual abuse problem and not just fixing its public relations problem, Pope Francis may go down in history as the man who restored the Churchs moral clarity.

(21,752 posts)I keep hearing how the unquestioned leader who is infallible on matters of religious doctrine can't do anything but talk... I don't get it.

Actions, however, speak so much louder than words.

This wasn't "in the past", it was barely over a month ago.
Why should the Vatican respond to a UN panel? If there are folks here who don't understand the unique position of the church at the United Nations, I suggest they look it up... and just how that position has been used to oppose resolutions on issues such as decriminalizing homosexuality to contraception to a resolution decrying violence against women.

(21,506 posts)He changed vatican law making child abuse a crime and instituted a commission on child abuse to investigate and prosecute child abuse.
I dont understand your refusal to recognize changes this pope is making and dismissing real changes as just talk.
Haters gonna hate I guess.

(21,752 posts)How fucked up is that... Strange the article neglects to mention any of what you said though. Tell me... Will they be opening up their records and co-operating with police on the various back charges? Revealing the ones they have covered up and have not been discovered yet? Will they be turning in the priests they have hidden?
Egnever
(21,506 posts)and yes it is strange but we are talking about a church that is hundreds of years old. Change comes slowly.
As far as the rest of it why not find out for yourself instead of just dismissing everything this pope does?
Ohio Joe
(21,752 posts)Somehow...Because talk is more then previous popes did... That is some miracle we should be happy about.
Is he not the unquestioned leader who is infallible on matters of religious doctrine? Why does this change have to come slowly? Will they un-pope him?
As for making child abuse a crime... That was a change to Vatican city law, not church doctrine... Oh and he also made leaking vatican secrets a much graver crime... That can change quickly... But it appears the change about child abuse won't include helping authorities track down priests that the church hides... or making restitution... Just stiffer penalties for those that get caught in the vatican... Yay change!

(2,205 posts)Law has already been to Confession, said the obligatory five Hail Marys and been forgiven.
The ruling cabal wants this scumbag on Ice in the Vatican so that a real criminal investigation can't grab him and charge him with a few felonies.
If that ever happened Law the "Criminal" would probably like most criminals sing like a Canary about the higher ups, fellow cover up artists and most of all financial dealings.

(12,536 posts)would want all the churches problems solved in six to seven month. The Catholic church, I think, has over 1.3 billion adherents. I just hope he lives long enough to clean up the mess he has inherited with the predatory priest in the past and those who white washed all the scandals.
