Honest to blog, I don't know where we go from here. (Kindly Doc Maddow has the same problem, and good on her for telling the Kochs to go whistle.) There aren't many avenues left by which ordinary citizens can effectively run their self-government any more, and the ones that still exist are narrowing by the day. I don't like to think about what happens to the politics of this country when it becomes generally acknowledged that there's no pea under any of the shells any more. The best thing that happens is that people simply give up and everything gets worse and more people give up. The worst thing that happens is that people look for other avenues through which to run a country and a government that no longer belongs to them, which is a bag of horrors. This is what Justice Anthony Kennedy helped bring about with a single sentence:

"We now conclude that independent expenditures, including those made by corporations, do not give rise to corruption or the appearance of corruption."

In a tragic sense, he was right. In a tragic sense, the system is not corrupt at all. The Koch brothers, and the forces that they represent, are getting exactly what they've paid for. It is an above-the-board transaction, and a fundamentally conservative one at that. The peddling of the public influence is now fully privatized.

And it doesn't get easier. The battles change, but evil charges on endlessly. We have to be steadfast in who we are. I don't know if the "war" will ever end. When I became involved, I met members of the Gray Panthers and they had been fighting all their lives. Perhaps the battle never ends and the only way to understand is to see who we are and who we have become. In the end, there is only our Self as we "tunnel" through to the next world.

Maybe it was our "Calling" .....

Sometimes....I wonder...but, I could never give up...even though I thought I should.

"Keep on Trucking" ...as someone said to me and used that phrase in their posts when "DU" was first founded in 2000 when Bush stole Election awarded by the Supreme Court of the USA!" It was December...and I didn't join here (although lurked) until April of 2001 (if I recall correctly..it was April).

GOTTA KEEP ON TRUCKING....if one can deal. It sure get's harder "Truckin' Through the Muck" these days though... And that DU'er is long gone from this site... Gave up Early or maybe was Banned or something. ...STill I loved that Message!

the Furry Freak Brothers iirc, late 60s early 70s...probably early 70s SF. I worked for Met Life and used their mimeograph machine to print anti war posters to set up rallies. I had never used one before and became quite proficient. I never had a clue what my job was at Met Life, but I went there for some months before I moved to the east bay so my hubby could ride his bike (the fog was THICK every day in the city)...sorry I got lost down memory lane.
But yes, the fight is endless. But in the end, it only matters how you faced it all and reacted.

Not the Destination that counts. We all die. The Play of Good and Evil can not stop until we all see through the Veil. Time to be the 100th Monkey or at least the 99th.

pass a "useless baton" onto the next in the relay. I always wanted my life to stand for something...and I'm not ready to give up that it won't. I think many feel that way...and will find a way...somehow to leave a better legacy. It's not for all...but many feel it's worth the slogging...even if it's damned hard going at it.....

"Crack Down against the Paid Trolls or better Site Management...I find better Comments on some "News Stories" these days than here on DU.

Have no idea why that is. And, yes, there are still sites that are TOXIC and one can't even read past the IGNORANCE there...but, some of the better Leftie Sites seem to have the "Best Comments and most Informed on the Web...these days."

Just gotta know where to go...and make sure the sites are not advertised to attract the trolls .."too much."

So better not to even go into "which are the clean sites" for good folks doing comments that enlighten rather than do a turn off......
