All this "Woo" is very distracting and another way to divide us.

It has nothing to do with politics and seems to keep us at each others throat.

It's time to let this go. We don't need to do the Right's job for them.

Especially not right after New Years.

Warm wishes to you all, especially the ones I argue with. I know I have things to work on and I hope we all realize that.

It's a minor ongoing argument between a handful of posters who don't know each other. It's like saying the fact that a family always disagrees on who is supposed to be taking out the trash or who left the damned seat up on the toilet "divides" that family.

It's a little pissing match between those of us who take minor shit very seriously. We're all still Dems and we're all still progressives who want the same broad liberal goals. The fact that some of us are goofy enough to believe in homeopathy and alien crop circles doesn't make me love our little Intarwebz Family any less or cause me to doubt their dedication to the same basic principles I myself stand behind.

It just seems like we just got done skewering each other for either being to moderate or to purist (that latter of which I would probably labeled) and now this, it feels artificial.

Trust me, I come from a very dysfunctional family to say the least but it just seemed like (here in DU) we didn't take a break from the last argument and we're on to this new insignificant issue?

I thought we were the big umbrella, what's with this shit? You know?

anyway, take care bud.

have a good one.

It's one thing to throw your own money away on things like homeopathy (really, it's just water or sugar pills), but it's quite another to equate that with real medicine, as some of our Democratic representatives have. It is DANGEROUS at worst and completely ineffective at best. So "woo" IS a political issue. Believing in nonsense actually kills. People who do not vaccinate their kids (for invalid reasons like religious belief or the erroneous believe that they are harmful) are a menace to society. I'm guessing there are not too many anti-vaxxers here, but a lot of that other stuff is dangerous as well.

But most dangerous is that, if you believe in nonsense, you are likely to fall for anything any politician will tell you, because you clearly lack critical thinking skills. And that is what we need most when it comes to politics. You simply cannot take what they say at face value, especially when they are trying to get elected. They (ALL of them, including Obama) will say any old thing they have to in order to get your vote. And then, more often than not, will do a 180 once in office.

So, yes, blind faith in anything, especially in politicians, is very bad.

Questioning woo simply exercises those critical thinking skills. Extraordinary claim require extraordinary evidence.

But at the same time the slow person manning the left fast lane is a menace to society too, how do I fix that?

I'm working with a couple of guys on an "indie" game, sitting @ home and modeling. We're trying to get on steam.
I'll give it a shot after I play through about 4 games I got over Christmas. It's bookmarked.

take care bud.

The scientific method, the foundation of all modern knowledge. That's not a petty issue. We knock Republicans for being creationists and climate climate deniers, but when it comes to alternative medicine, *somehow* the same fallacies and talking points CCD's and creationists spew start flowing out of DUers without even a hint of self-awareness.

I understand the political implications trust me. I've used the bang head smiley to fricken many times. I was more about how it sprung up so fast and how it's being used at that moment.
