I've been listening to local call in stations, reading comments on news sites; nobody, I mean nobody is defending Chris Christie.
This is New Jersey. We know in our guts that our politicians are crooks, I mean this is the state where when the FBI ended a corruption probe they had to hire Greyhound to haul in the suspects. We know they like to screw over their enemies and may be willing to forgive them for it if we happen to hate the target of their attentions ourselves.
There is one thing, however that unites people in this state and that is our hatred of traffic jams. Anyone whose gotten stuck at the on ramp to the George Washington Bridge--and that's pretty much anyone in this state is pissed. Democrat, Republican, Black, White, Christian, Jew, Muslim, Atheist people are outraged that a politician-even one they just voted in for a second term--would dare screw with traffic. It is one big rainbow coalition of outrage here in the Garden State, folks and for now it is a beautiful thing to see.

Never mind that Bridget Anne Kelly wrote that the kids belonged to Buono Voters!

(7,142 posts)I had too see if they talked about Christie. Bad news for Christie, Megyn Kelly kinda threw him under the bridge. It looks like Christie isn't the guy who the establishment Repubs want as their nominee.
2nd, don't fuck with Rachel Maddow, wow what a takedown she put on Christie. I know Rand Paul still has scars too.

(25,183 posts)It's such a mess, and that's with a recession. It will be unimaginable if we ever get to a full-employment economy.
My prediction: Unless there's a smoking gun directly tying Christie to this, he gets off scot-free by firing a half dozen people who it was proven did know about this, and especially the chain of command that ordered and executed it knowing it was the wrong thing to do. There's a whole culture of corruption in this area, and people around here know it, even if they carp about it from time to time.

(26,060 posts)I used to cross the GWB every work day and the thought that somebody stalled traffic for petty reasons will piss off everyone. Christie should be toast from this episode.

(3,231 posts)On the approach to the GWB for 7 hours ( on the Jersey side) one Sunday night and vowed never, ever again. I live in New England and anytime I have to get through NYC now I take the Tappan Zee --- if I lived in Jersey or NYC and someone purposely f'ed up the traffic, I'd be ready to run them out of town on a rail.
